Re: MKIV GTI/GLI 1.8T PCV Delete/Catch Can Install & Brake Booster Mod

I'm not exactly to sure what you are doing here sorry. do i need to buy this or just the two listed above? also i wanted to double check that doing both these procedures won't cause my MIL/CEL to come on, i already have no cat and passed emissions in CT, don't want to push my luck with a light lol.

still these stupid hoses are brittle from the heat and 167k and I'm not about to spend 150+60++++ for the hoses, rather catch it if I'm spending that much. thanks

also where did you get your plugs please or did you make them

the catch can and brake boosted mods wont throw any CELs or change any of ur emissions ... its just getting rid of unnecessary extra lines that could dryrot and cause leaks ..... not if u do the rest of the emissions controls delete stuff you probably will get a cel unless u get a custom tune like i did

Re: MKIV GTI/GLI 1.8T PCV Delete/Catch Can Install & Brake Booster Mod

Hello,

My suction pump went bad and I want to delete it following the "Brake Booster Mod".

However, there is one thing that I don't understand: the suction pump is also connected to the PCV system, more specifically to the PCV valve housing ( T ). What happens to the valve there ?

Should I just remove the PCV valve and cap the T housing ?

Your help is greatly appreciated :)

Re: MKIV GTI/GLI 1.8T PCV Delete/Catch Can Install & Brake Booster Mod

the brake booster mod is SIMPLY a straight uncut piece of hose that runs from the large port on the intake manifold to the last check valve near the firewall . AND has NOTHING to do with the pcv system

Re: MKIV GTI/GLI 1.8T PCV Delete/Catch Can Install & Brake Booster Mod

the CATCH CAN install is where it deletes all that bullsh!t under the intake manifold and all the lines that run over the intake runners and the pcv system , then u either keep the hockey puck looking thing thats in the intake pipe and run a recirculating catch can or get rid of it & run a vent to atmosphere catch can and plug the hole in the intake pipe .

Re: MKIV GTI/GLI 1.8T PCV Delete/Catch Can Install & Brake Booster Mod

I think there's a misunderstanding.

In the "Booster Mod", you clearly show that you remove the suction pump. The pump which is connected to the PCV system. It draws fumes from the PCV at idle and cruising via the PCV Valve. My question is what happens to that PCV valve if you remove the pump along with the hoses that connect the PCV valve with the intake manifold ?

Can you do the "Booster Mod" without deleting/reshaping the PCV system ?

ur talking about the hose set on the right correct ?? and if so u mean the plastic piece with the 90 degree hose on it ? im 90% sure it goes to the bottom of the intake manifold ... ill check more of my diy notes later on it

Hi,

Actually, I'm talking about both. To be concise, my question is this: Can I delete the stuff from the bottom right, without deleting the stuff from the upper left ? I'm asking that because these 2 systems connect at the PCV valve housing ( T, right after big elbow )

Thank you very much for replying so promptly :)

Re: MKIV GTI/GLI 1.8T PCV Delete/Catch Can Install & Brake Booster Mod

I admit, I was stubborn. :p

I shall remove both. I see now that there's no point in keeping the one with the "Puck Valve".

Ummm, I got 2 questions for you though, regarding the Catch Can.

1. I know there are many designs for Catch Cans. However, I would like to go with the simplest one. Is it OK to have one PVC plastic container with 2 ports ? Or do I really need some sort of filter inside the Container to better remove the oil vapors ?

2. What happens with the vapors after they exit the Catch Can ? Do you inject them back into the intake air stream ? If so, what port are you using ?

Your help is very much appreciated :)

Hi, let me help you out a bit here.

You want a metal catch can first off, with 2, or 3 ports. The reason we do this delete/mod is to get rid of the old brittle and rotten rubber/ plastic units used in this system. The catch can should have some sort of multi level filter inside to actually stop the material in the vapor, otherwise the can is pointless and acts more like a vacuum resivoir. There are two types of Catch Cans, VTA(Vent To Atmosphere), and Recirculating.
-The Recirculation Can will have 2-3 ports leading in and out of the can. In the end, it will lead back into the "black hockey puck" location which is where it re-enters the intake stream for burnoff.
-The Vent To Atmosphere Can will look like the same style of setup but will utilize a filter on the top to eliminate the extra hose to the "Black Hockey Puck" location. This
allows for elimination of bad vapors and is my fovorite style. It can get messy though depending on how often you empty your can, and how much blow-by vapor your engine produces.

Both cans will have to be emptied regularly as goop/gunk will build up from airborne oil vapors. Some people run the Catch Can drain from the bottom of the can back into the oil pan. Others drain and dispose. It's up to you on how you set it up.
