So I had ordered the factory Dynaudio with my Gti. Its good but I want better. Im going to keep the stock interiors and add a JLw6 stealth box with a 600 rms JL amp. Im going to be dishing out 1,200 bucks for this. Anyone have something similiar ? I have had throw together systems before but I feel like this is the right way to go. Comments appreciated.

can even get the amp wire kit in walmart

all jokes aside, $1,200 is way too much for adding a sub and amp

I built my box for 50, got 2x12 for 60, and a 1000 watt amp for 60, wire kit was 20....

I had throw together boxes for a couple hundred bucks, and this quality was ****. No offense so ne one who has one of these lol

Itsall brand new parts, high quality equipment. If you take a JL vs a Sony and you see the price differencem its not worth it ?

I dont have the time to do an install on my own, plus if I break something I will get billybob anger in me

What would you guys go with ?

The stealth box is important to me because of the limited space in our trunks.

The phrase, 'you get what you pay for' applies to a lot of situations, but i think especially when you're dealing with audio.. not only quality of sound, but the quality of the components that produce that sound.

I like stealth.

If you need all your trunk space, the stealth box is the best bet. However like others have said you can buy smaller boxes for much less, but thats a decision you'll have to make. My thoughts, 600w amp is a bit overkill for a single sub, especially if your not putting an amp to your mids/highs and keeping stock speakers. Might be able to save some bucks with a 300w or 350w amp instead...

but if all you looking is to get some bass

i dont think the $1200 price tag is worth it

yes there are diff between a sony or JL but are you going to be in sound competitions

or listening to music at full volume? cause thats is where all the major differences in quality come into play IMO

i got a 12" walmart box for $30 and used a sony sub and some cheap pyle amp i got 8yrs ago. all with stock monsoon speakers on the inside

and it sounds good, good voice from the OEM speakers and more then enough bass from a cheap amp and sub

i rather spend 1.2k on a nice in dash tv/nav set up, if you didnt get the OEM one

Well the 600 watt amp is whats recommended for the jl 10 in sub. Better to over power than under power. I have the dynaudio which are better than stock speakers ( not the best but not bad ) I like to drive with windows open and wind blowing, so Im missing that clear quality punch...Lets see guys lets see

im sorry buddy but you are wrong here

its not better to over power a sub, you will blow it. but if its recommended it should be fine

I had a mtx7500 dual coil 10- ~400 watt if I remimber, and a 1600w old old legacy running on one channel, turned half way down and it was actually good quality, JL is probably a bit better but you can get both for like $2-$250 new now + a box and wiring. I'm not saying you should go with either one just saying keep your options open. I hate seeing people blow a lot of money on just a sub setup when you arn't competing in anything. for 1200 You could do sub-amp, and replace all your componet speakers + amp.

I never had problems running a 2 channel bridged but I hear a monoblock is the best if you don't plan on running anything else off it in the future.

x2 always ran a 2chan amp bridged for my sub

i need a mono to run a 1500 rms watt sub i have but that is over kill for the GTI

I ran a 12w6v2 with a bridged 300/4 in my dub. Probably the best sounding sub I've ever owned. It also had more bump to it than a friends set up of 3 10w1s...

I have a bias opinion after having JL TTB, I won't ever have anything else and I will save to make sure I have it again...

dont know much about stereo but i have done all the installs in my car

and a few in friends cars

but never go over the recommended RMS and frequency of a speaker

underpowering subs is one of the easiest ways to blow the coil (thermal damage) , and cause clipping and kill the amp..... you will be ok if you dont overdraw the amp. keep gain lvls down
