Yes I have done a search.

I am planning on getting winter tires with steel wheels from tirerack. I have an '07 with the TPMS. I have searched this and other boards and haven't found an answer.

From what I understand I have 3 options:

1) buy the tire/wheel combo, and deal with my Fast telling me all winter that the TMPS is missing
2) put winter tires on the stock rims (don't really want to because I like the rims and want to keep them pretty)
3) buy the tire/wheel combo, and then go and buy another set of TPMS and have them installed once I get everything (the most expensive option, i heard a set of sensors will run you over $300)

I have the summer perf. tires and will be seeing snow. What is the best option? I heard mixed things about the TPMS that the dealer can deactivate it/the dealer can't or won't deactivate it, you can get someone to VAGCOM it/ i can't VAGCOM it, etc.

What should I do?

I was able to find some more info on another forum and ordered the steel wheels with dunlop M3s. For anyone who is in the same predicament this is what I concluded: the best thing to do is to just get a winter package without TPMS and put a little piece of electrical tape over the dummy light on the dashboard. If you get a separate set of sensors you have to program your car to read the new sensors then program it back in the spring. Or, you can just VAGCOM the warning out but then you have to put it back in the spring so unless you have a VAGCOM it is a hassle. Most dealers won't do it because of the liability. For those of us who see enough snow and salt to make this an issue go with steel wheels and ignore your dashboard for the winter. So far that is the bast way to go.
