Hey Everyone,

I am getting ready to switch to winter tires, but was wondering if I should get an alignment done at the same time. I didn't get one last winter and it rode fine, but I have heard that you should get an alignment any time you switch tires. I would rather just switch the tires myself because I have a torque wrench and a jack - and I could save some more money for a mod or something.

Thanks in advance.

An alignment every time ya switch tires?

Nope, that's overkill.

Today's suspensions hold an alignment for incredibly long
periods of time. For instance, just today I had an alignment
done on the wife's PT Cruiser. It's five and a half years old,
got 63K miles on it and this is the first alignment. And I only
got that because I had a tie rod end replaced and the toe-in
was outta whack. I swap between summer and winter tires
on it every year.

Keep an eye on your tire pressures and inspect the tires
for uneven wear on a regular basis and you'll be OK.

Magic_Man, I always get a second set of wheels/tires for my car. The local dealer offered a 'warranty' for cheap with the package they sell. The fine print said every I needed a front-end alignment at least once per year, up to twice depending on number of miles driven. Also would have to have the tires rotated, by them, every 3K miles. Went to my non-corporate affiliated mechanic who said hogwash to all of it. Just another scam.
Haven't had an alignment done in years. Even my Wrangler didn't need one after 3 years!( and that was from the dealer!).
