Vegas Fahrenheit asked this question today, so let's find out. Who is the oldest member of MFG? If you're older than the most recent post, post your age and any other comments you think are relative. Since I'm starting this thread, not many people will get to post, becuase I am...

47

Married for over 20 years. Two preschoolers. Always wanted a VW, but this is my first.

Once, when I wasn't in my car, I saw another Tornado Red. I was so excited! I told my friend to speed up and get next to him. I turns out it was a older man with gray hairs and slightly balding. I don't know how old he was. His skin wasn't very "wrinkly" but I'd say about 57 or so.

PS- I'm only 19.... so i'm FAR from being the oldest.

???...I pose this question...Is age really relavent when you have all that torque gruntin'away from a dig...and the turbo spoolin' up...w/the 'suck/swoosh' coming from your P-flo..as the numbers on the speedo go higher and the grin on your face makes your cheeks hurt from being permanent? I'm just 35, but I feel like I'm 18 again even when my 11 yr. old son is sittin' in the passenger seat saying.."Dad, ...WHOA...TRIPLE DIGITS?!? You should SO go smoke somebody!" ^-^ So the fountain of youth could be seen as owning a V-Dub and watchin' those little white lines on the highway turn into a blurrrrr.... 8)

Hmmm, I've still got all my hair, and no "wrinkly" skin.
I'm guessing this guy musta been 95 or so. :)

You're only 19?

I've got jeans older than that.
Not that I still fit in them or anything. [fish]

>:D O0

I can only hope my 10 y/o becomes a gearhead and a Vdubber. It's also funny when he asks, "Hey Dad- can we take that ricer over there?" [fish]

Now you can get a nice set of wheels for that price.

Geezer racing crew rules:

Rule #1: Never put an AARP sticker on your GTI.

Thanks for the advice. My body may be 57 but my brain thinks I'm still in my twenties. I haven't joined that group of old bastards and prolly won't. I do however belong to AAA in case my other car (a '99 Isuzu Trooper with 65K) needs a tow job, or if one of my friends' cars goes tits up.

66 last month. Still have all my hair, most of my teeth, four grandchildren and the first new car I ever bought (in 1966). As Dylan says "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now!" :)
Redshift, you are the same age as my dad....cool!!! My dad is visiting me from Belgium next month - he is going to love my new ride, I am 100 % sure.
When I was a kid, his first car was the fist european styled Ford Escort, and he raced that thing (we had it for 12 years) and it was orange too, just like Fahrenheit.

The car in the pic looks just like our old car :'( memories.....

BTW- Wasn't advice (just given you a bad time O0).

My brother is 3 years younger than you, is going on 25 and owns an 06 RS MkV. >:D

I'll be 54 in a week or so.

Back in the 80's my wife owned a 68 or 69
Beetle. A lot of fun, but it was best (charitably) described
as primitive. :)

I've got a buddy that just bought a new GTI last month.
Sliver, with the 6MT.

He'll be 79 next week. O0
Get your buddy to join MFG and this contest will no doubt be over.

Damn guys, I mostly keep my age to myself because I thought perhaps it would alienate me if I let my age be known. I replied in one of these posts “just the top side of 50”, actually topside plus three. I’m real glad to know I’m not the only “Old Fart” that has come to realize this GTI is a great buy and a damn fun car. I also still have all my hair and most of my teeth.
At this stage in my life I could have afforded a more expensive car. I just couldnÂ’t find a better one within 10 grand. If you got to have a decent mileage commuter, might as well have fun.
Watch it out there, the guy that blows your doors off just may be your dad!!! ;D
