Is there a different set of rules here that constitute all the threads I've seen locked? Do you lock a thread if there is a similar thread that has been made? Just curious. I don't think that helps the site grow very much if that is the case.

usually if it's locked it has been moved or there is a similar thread in that topic forum. Use the search function - it's your friend! ;D

I think we were just having a problem of too many redundant topics. A lot of people come to this site with one topic or question and just post it, not knowing that it's already been discussed elsewhere.

There wouldn't be TONS of locked topics if members didn't make repeat threads. There's a reason for the lock in the last post of every locked thread and there are rules stickied at the top of the most popular forums. I also lock a topic if the question that has been asked has been answered.
