crutchfield has the fit kit im running an alpine head unit for my ipod since i had the same problems you are having. its not to bad of an install but if your going to change speakers and add amps in a few months do it all at once since you have to take apart everything to get to one thing.

I'm not finding the Monster iDrive... got a link?

Regarding the fit kit from Crutchfield... Crutchfield.com doesn't even list the '07 GTI as an option. How did you order a kit?
its the same as the 2006 new gti/jetta. I highly reccomend adding an amp to your alpine head unit to power the crossovers for the speakers. you dont need anything big a 4x40watts @4o will do you fine.

if your going to put in new speakers it gets a little harder there isnt many companies that make 3 way component sets. you have a 6.5" 4" and tweeter in your doors. and a 6.5" and tweeter in your rear. I went with mb quart to get true 3 way set in my door and the sound is insane. mb quart pce210 with an add a woofer[QSC 164] for your door,mb quart RVF 216 for the rear and you'll be very happy with the sound. you can also just get a 6.5 and run it as a 2nd mid in your door if you go with someone that doesnt make 3 way sets i did that with my infinity speakers but blew the 4" speakers fast doing so.

its all a matter of how much you care about sound/price i spend alot of time in my car and need to have a nice sounding system to keep me happy. I also need full control over my ipod from my head units, in total i spent about 1,500.00 for my system if you count my sub amps and head unit into the mix.

I put in the infinitys but paid 200.00 for the install of the mb's the installs a pain in the arse and worth the 200 to me.
as for head units i love the alpines i have a 9757 i think thats the model number its 2 lines of text cd/mp3/wma unti and it out proforms anything ive ever had. Im not sure what if any other company makes a head unit thats real time with an ipod but with how well the alpine handles everything i would stick with your alpine if i were you since you already have it and they are one of the better made units out there.

That looks identical to my head unit. I think my alpine is the CDA-9856. It looks good I think. That extra space underneath could be useful too. Is that part of the kit from Crutchfield?
yea they always have a space in them to make up for the double din to single din a few companys make double din aftermarket units but alpine doesnt make one that fits in the gti/jetta

Anyone know if the Sirius SAT radio and the steering wheel controls will work if I put the alpine unit in? I've got sirius now, with the stock unit. Will it still function with the Alpine or will I have to do other stuff?

thanks,
The sirius will no longer work you would have to get the ad on sat box made for the alpine , the steering audio controls would be lost for now the company that makes the add on to make them work with the alpine hasnt put out a new model yyet to work on the new vw/audi/seat lines yet should be out soon. ive been waiting for it to come out.

So, the add on SAT box made for the Alpine just plugs in and hangs behind the head unit or do I have to somehow connect it to the factory ant. equipment?
its nothing to plug it in i would bolt it in behind the glove box. also feed the ipod hook up out of the hole for aux since it wont work anymore just remove it.
