I was thinking of getting a really light tint done to it also... Dont even want the cops to bother me with this... is it worth it? I noticed this weekend the nice light blue tint that already comes with the car... it really keeps from seeing inside the car from certain angles... it's nice...

I actually wondered the same thing, and the guy informed me that even if you put on 35%, I'll still be illegal.. at least in NC.. cuz your car comes with 80% light blue from the factory.. so when you throw 35 on top of the 80, you end up with 15% passing thru.. if my math is correct... or some shit.. I am still gonna do it tho. Any thoughts on SunTek tint? good or bad?

i have 15% all around on a black gti color it blends very well with the car and you cant really see in unless you look through the front window and then i think you can only see the front seat and there is enough light so that you can see outside during the night time, on the sides you have to look really close to see inside i didnt want to go any darker cause i didnt think i would be able to see at night

If you put 35% on your windows you will only have slightly lower than that even with the factory tint. The numbers won't add together like that. I put 20% vlt (visible light transmission) with 11% reflectivity on my United Grey Fast. I usually don't like the mirror stuff, but this tint has a "gunmetal" finish that really looks good on the UG car.

Anyway, I put a light meter on my window and it came up at 19% vlt. Different tints will rate differently, though. Just because you put a 20% vlt tint on your window doesn't mean it will be exactly that number. It varies by tint manufacturer. The numbers are a good guide, but more importantly get what looks good on your car.

The cops in NY are total dicks about window tint; especially the state troopers. I used to live in TX and everyone has dark tint down there. The cops couldn't care less.

You can either tint your windows within the legal limits of your state, or you can get your car inspected with someone who doesn't care about your tint. Just ask the inspector beforehand.

If you are unsure of your state's law check out this link TintDude.

There is a plethora of information about window tint on this site.

Or you can ask the place your getting the tint at, and they will usually take it off before you get inspected, and then put it back on after. And the will do it for free if you go to the right place. ;)
