I've received several mails asking this question. I thought it time to put it to rest.
GTI stands for - Gran Turismo Iniezione (Grand Touring Injected)

How about Great Torque Inhere?

I used to think it was Golf Turbo something.

Gran = Gran
Turismo = Toor-eez-mo
Iniezione = een-yeah-zi-own-a

the a in the end is like the a in grape

Well, Golf Turbo Injected then.... Close enough.

Why not just call it Gran Tourismo Injection, skip the fancy Italian. I also read that GTI stands for "Grand Tourisme Injection" (french, pronounce it more or less as you would in English, just make the end of "injection" sound like Adam Sandler's Cajun guy is saying it).
