I find this disheartening. One of the main reasons I decided to go ahead and get my GTI was the availibility of XM built right in to the car. I have had XM for several years before and will continue to subscribe to them. Perhaps this means my next new vehicle will be something other than a VW. What is so bad with offering the owner a choice?

Yes, I've always had aftermarket, and it was a BIG selling point that it was built in on the mkV. We'll have to see what my stance is down the road when the time comes to replace the GTI. I know in four years my finances will be in a position to buy MUCH more car.

Never-mind I figured it out.. for some reason channel 0 was not coming in (which gives you the radio ID # used for activation). After messing with it for some time I was able to get it. That kind of sucks that I was not given a 3-month free trial subscription to XM radio. oh well..

hey just to give you alittle headsup about xm. If you call them and threaten to switch to sirius they will drop the price per month to like 3.99. I work with 3 or 4 people who have had theres dropped to that. Sirius is really hurting xm so they are trying there best to keep people on. Hope this works for you as it has for them.

Hehe, Yeah I have been using that Social Engineering technique with my broadband carrier for a while now. threaten to switch to DSL lol, but it stops working after a while. LOL

Anyway, I just activated my XM radio.. they waived the activation charge and got 3 months free.

Now i could listen to the Barkleys Cup XM radio stream live over the web when im at work at my cubicle. LOL!

Thanks for the heads up though Cdawg. Plus +1 karma for you.

I made the dealer activate it. I think if you scan down from channel 1 you get the radio ID.

I've had my ride for like 3 weeks. I've been listening to the Sirius whenever I'm in the car (except the parking garage) and when I'm at work I listen to it all day on the internet with streaming audio. (you all did know you could do that right?)
Overall I don't think I'm super impressed with it, and when my 3 months comes I don't think I'll renew. I'm still a little undecided about this.

I ran into the same 'activation fee' thing on the XM website also. I called XM and they activated it for me while I was on the phone. Just give them a call if you have trouble on the internet site... and yes you do get 3 months free.

I would assume you can still activate it. Give them a call and see. I know you will need your radio ID number when you call. That number was on a small card in my ownders manual books. I believe XM's number is 1 800 967-2346
