Here's another opportunity for those of you who missed out on buying the Pope's Volkswagen Golf last time round.

This story began in 2005, when 21-year old German Benjamin Halbe realised that his car had previously been owned by a certain Joseph Ratzinger, who subsequently became Pope Benedict XVI. Halbe advertised the Golf on eBay, where it sold for just under €190,000 - rather a lot more, we imagine, than Halbe paid for it.

The winning bid was made by online casino, which used the car for promotional activities. (The same company also bought a grilled cheese sandwich containing - yes, really - a vision of the Virgin Mary.)

Now GoldenPalace is putting the Golf back up for auction. You can find it on eBay, item no. 280099096259. Proceeds from the sale will go to the housing charity Habitat For Humanity Great Britain, whose website is at .

Incidentally, Pope Benedict probably doesn't need a car now, but since he took office he has been presented with a Volkswagen Phaeton, a Volvo FL truck and the steering wheel from Michael Schumacher's 2004 World Championship-winning Ferrari.
