Re: Vancouver's VW CLUB

I might be moving to the Okanagan. Maybe I'll join the Vancouver club and meet up with you guys sometime.
Bring some of that Alberta oil with you so our taxes go down. Ordering my car at the end of the month and the taxes alone are $4000. I have to keep reminding myself that we get health care, EI, etc - but it is still hard to see that money fly out of the account. I have not seen too many GTI's around Vancouver, especially white ones for some reason.

Still deciding between same job I have now in B.C. or move to Toronto and work my way up the corporate ladder. What I'm sure of is that I'm leaving this cesspool of a province. There's no real career here for someone who isn't a Roughneck and I can't afford to buy a house (nor do I want to buy what I can afford, which is garbage condominiums).

Infrastructure is literally crumbling before my eyes here. Potholes on roads appearing faster than they can be repaired and I just read today that the city put out a tender offer to get a high priority stretch of freeway that is totally pothole-ridden resurfaced and got no offers. So they won't be doing it until 2009.
I would never slam another province or place I have not lived, but we love it here! I say pack up the FAST and get to the ocean. Speaking of roads, I am always amazed as soon as I cross the border and head to Seattle how the roads become more concrete, and generate a lot more road noise. We are spoiled with our asphalt, even with the potholes.

It's not much better here in Surrey, BC or any surrounding areas. I feel so much pain for my tires while driving. I'm constantly driving near the middle of the road (when they are clear) because of the damn potholes/rocks or having to swerve to avoid hitting them. I desperately need to get a Clear bra for my car before more rocks hit the hood.

I don't know if I just don't remember this happening other winters, but the roads just seem like they got trashed this winter more then normal.
Nitroburn, where did you buy your GTI and were you able to get any $$ off the sticker price? We are ordering next Saturday and have a quote from Capilano VW for $600 off sticker + rubber floor mats. I am trying to get the iPod adapter thrown in too. Would appreciate your feedback, and any other feedback from Vancouver area folks.

hey uncle dude, I'm also in Vancouver & I picked up my GTI at Cap VW back in late February of this year. If you've ordered your ride, it'd be great to hear what you paid...also, what you got (colour, package, etc). I waited almost 4 months for mine...called Cap VW almost every day for an update as I got close to the end. Hahahaha. oh yeah...I paid $33090.
is that the price before tax and all the delivery charges etc?
how much did you get off the sticker price?
I am ordering Saturday, so it would be great to know - we deal at Capilano too

Go Canucks!

I'm glad they beat the stinkin' Stars, but you guys, I'm gonna have to level with ya: My Oilers get an extra 1st round draft pick (from the Pronger trade) if the Ducks make it to the finals (or conference finals, I can't remember exactly), so GO DUCKS GO!
watch it, this could get ramped up faster than the gun thread.....................LUONGO

Well it finally happened. We just ordered our new Candy White 2008 GTI, 18" wheels, iPod Adapater, and Monster Mats. No 2007 cars fit that spec in the BC and Alberta area. You all have a popular car, and apparently a very desirable car - and soon I will join your ranks. We knew we would have to wait, but it will take 5 months which is fine with us so we can save the cash up. Thanks for the local feedback and help on the price. We did well, and used the wait time to our advantage.

hey uncle dude...what's different on the 2008 from the 2007? That's cool that you got the ipod adapter...I may get it at some point but I've just been using the auxilary jack in the glove box which works well. At this point, it looks like I'm going for the parrot bluetooth kit with the wiring harness for steering wheel phone button control as my next mod. Five months is a long time to wait my friend. Good for you for holding out though...
The dealer said there would be no difference, but time will tell. I know he couldn't say for sure, but he showed me the spec sheets and everything appeared to be the same. My concern is that they might start dropping options and keep the price the same - which would suck. I can't see them messing with a good, award winning package, and we really hope it is the same.

Taking delivery of my Fahrenheit on Friday and am wondering if it has the washer ability on it?I'll have to ask when I pick it up if no one here knows. :)
As far as I know the 2007's don't have the headlamp washers (if that's what you mean). It sucks when they change stuff, but apparently the iPod auxiliary plug was added for the 07 - so at least they gave something back. Make sure you post the pics. How much was it? Where did you get it?

Hi Uncle Dude, I registered to this forum because apparently we both
1) live in the same area;
2) ordered a 2008 GTI; ;)
3) deal with the same dealer and have similar deals; ;D
4) concern about the changes for 2008. ???

I phoned VW and as expected, they did not confirm any changes, esp. the Canadian Spec.

AFAIK, the washer was already deleted and so did the new 17". If the US changes applies to Canada as well, we would have the 15mm height reduction so that our GTI will be the same as the Euro. spec. car.
cool.......what does AFAIK mean?..........I spoke with Gary and he could not find any changes on his data base - but who knows....I am trying to be patient - when did he say you get yours?

Went to Capilano VW yesterday and my car is about to start assembly. Still sounds like October though, they said all the train strikes are screwing up the orders. I sat in a Fahrenheit for few minutes while my they worked on my MKIV :p

what is with the www.vwdov.ca webink - useless to say the least

Hmmm... there is some MKiV info on this site, but you might have better luck on www.vwvortex.com. Post a thread in the MKIV section and see what you get.
