Is there anywhere in the greater Vancouver area where you can take your GTI out for a safe fast ride? What about Mission Speedway? Anyone?

yep, I've heard you can there - you get a lap or two with a race car driver and then your own lap. Been meaning to look into costs around this.

Great. Finally a link that works on this thread. Here are a few questions:

* how much does it cost?
* do you need instruction first?
* how did you like your MKV at speed?
* manual, or automatic?

No previous instruction or track experience required.

cost is aprox 200 per day, that's 100 minutes of track time in four 25 minute sessions including on and off track instruction. This Friday is a lapping day, more track time and less instruction, for people who've had a minimum of a couple regular track days already.

My DSG equiped MKV worked great on track. It's weakness at Mission, being a really tight slow track, is typical FWD inside wheel spin coming out of slow turns, which all of them are at Mission. The car could use a real LSD. The MKV will work even better I think on the Seattle and Portland tracks which you can also drive if you want to pursue it.
