hey whats up dude....

the engine cover wasnt hard to trim, granted i had access to a bandsaw. But saw-zur/hacksaw would work. i love my intake, i paid 188 bucks in from ecodetuning.com it came w/ free shipping and also the heatshield.

Re: Trimmed Stock Engine cover..success (directons and pics)

here it goes....i trimmed my engine cover today and here are the pics. it was quite simple only took bout 30mins.

i used a bandsaw, a saw-zaw and a file.

i trimmed off the air filter from the top part of the engine cover

next the right side of the intake. You dont have to trim all the way down, because it doesnt get in the way of the aftermarket intake

note on the left hand side, i dont have a pic for it right yet, but ur gonna need to make a cut soo the MAF fits.

ur gonna need to take of the heatshield, its made of steel and would b a pain in the ass to cut through. Also it allows you to get close to the grommets. Line im as close as possible to them, but avoid gettin them off, they are needed to secure the back of the engine cover down.

on the right hand side its the bottom part of the intake that needs cut off too.

here is the final look at it after its installed. Definitely worth doing!, looks better than the carbon fiber cover that neuspeed sells and doesnt cost you a thing.

thanks buddy...

mjmautohaus has it for 184 w/ free shipping, that day it said it was in transit....waited 3days no trackin number, called up and found out they it was backordered for another couple of days then they would mail it to me. I canceled my order and went w/ ecodetuning.

trimming it yourself is such a better idea than buying the evoms one for over hundred bucks.

You mentioned that it was 30 minutes to install the cover. What was the time on the intake to install?

the intake took me bout an hr on my own. I had no previous experience i was literally following the steps one by one. Also it would of taken less time, if i had taken the advice of other GTI owners and let my engine cool. The hardest part for me was removin the nuts behind the grommets so you can install the heat shield. The other part i found difficult was gettin the turbo intake connection tubing off, u have the squeeze the spring clip and pull the tubing off. Other than it it was a simple install

O0 Right on lumns...it's almost like a dejavous kind of thing. I've got the same car (color,"18 huffs, etc.) and just ordered my P-flo about an hour ago. I'm glad you had this thread going and showed pictures. I was looking under the hood last night and it looks cramped back there until I saw how large the engine cover/housing is . Seeing those pics helped me see everything better. Don't think it'll be too hard of an install. Thanx Bro!
