Tornado Red GTi...Smoke or not to Smoke?

6488 Views 18 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  knoXville
I own a 2K11 GTi it's a tornado red 4-Door. I am having a hard time deciding whether or not to smoke my lights or tint them at all. I am also having a hard time finding pics. I already know I want to smoke the Fogs. But am undecided on the tails/heads/and side markers. With the side markers, what do you guys think clear or smoke? Opinions?

IMO tinted always look nicer. Good DIY here someplace. I followed it for the tails, very easy anyway.
here is the DIY to smoke them if you decide to, there is also a pic of a TR MKV in there so you can see how the colors match up

I would personally smoke the tails and get color matched side markers, they look way better IMO, also be carefull tinting the fog lights, laminex makes that yellow stuff but if you tint them dark colors I would imaging a bunch of heat would build up in the lense/housing

Yeah the TR looks pretty good with tinted tails. So I take it most you guys think its better to spray tint as opposed to tint film? You mentioned something about matching side markers, you think red would be a good idea on a red car? Thanks for the insight guys.
It is cheaper to spray tint and probably a bit easier overall cost is about 20-30$ while tint is pretty hard to install because of the curves of the tailights.

yes color matched sidemarkers look way better IMO, I don't have a pic of TR colormatched but bellow is a pic of my old UG with color matched sidemarkers, there is a place online that sells them for about $60 I think

dont tint the headlight

that looks stupid IMO

Yeah I do like that better, do you remember the site where you found those?

Yeah besides, the headlight already has a black housing. So they look pretty good already.
yea a dude stops by the store all the time with tinted headlights and they look ridiculous... On the other had I have had tinted taillights and they look straight. I bought an aftermarket ocean taillights and prefer these taillights over the tinted ones all day...
I honestly don't remimber where I got them, it was online, but I just did a google search and came up empty. I think the place might have stopped selling them, I see most people are just buying small cans of touch up paint and doing them themselves for the most part now.

Yeah that's probably what I'll do then.

$$$....Gulp
I don't know that I like the clear plastic on red for some reason. Sticks out to much, but can't say for sure unless I saw it on the car...lol I wish someone would develop a program for problems such as these. So you could sit around and play around with different mods on various models. I guess MS paint will have to do.

I think TR besides maybe CW is the only color(s) that clear looks really good on. Those orange side markers look like I nerfed a construction barrel, uuuggh. I like both "looks" smoked and clear. Ive decided to stay stock on the outside for now until my performance mods are done and then Ill match its bark w/ its bite. Those damn stock markers are going to go 1st though, they drive me crazy against that red.
i like my orange bumper markers

and my clear side markers

see both
There is a guy on Vortex that does the side markers in any color, that is where I got mine done. Looks a lot better than the amber.
