OK so here is the deal I bought a car to win a bet with a friend we will call him Jackass. So Jackass(friend) says his car(the mighty mighty honda civic) is the best ride available for the money. So out comes the bet I have a month and $3000.00 to spend including the cost of the car to build up a car that will beat him in an scca time trial run off. So the bet is the car must be street legal in every sense, It must pass Oregon safety and DEQ on the day of the race. So out shopping I go. I find a 1989 1.8 8 valve GTI. It is 3 colors but has character. It already has Big bumpers held on by sheet screws always a plus when looking at a MK2. It has a poorly installed half roll cage and naturally 4 different tires, the trans has a broken tooth on reverse and oh yeah the reverse lockout is gone as is any chance of finding a gear. So I officially have my work cut out for me. Over the next few weeks we will start really digging into this car. Fast freddie and vwgti20v
dont know it yet but are about to get roped into helping out with this endeaver. I Will update progress and photos tomorrow. We are going to put it up on the lift to see just how much work is ahead.

Sounds like fun. It doesn't seem quite fair as Jackass ;) has had how long to build his rice grinder? How much has he spent? Hopefully you have some tricks up your sleeve to show him what we really think of the Japanese products. Keep us posted!! ;D

Oh yes it is. She is painted Urban Camoflage. Meaning it has a Black trunk, Medium Blue hood, light Blue upper body and roof with a dark Blue lower body. The big bumpers are Black and are not mounted correctly. We started in on the mechanicals yesterday. It has some issues we are addressing. I will be posting pics of the car tomorrow. If anyone knows where I can get cheap front and rear sway bars I could use some. Overall the car is pretty good. It needs at Least 1 wheel bearing and rear brakes. I also need to rebuild the shift linkage which is all being done tomorrow. It has a torn CV Boot and torn Steering Rack Boot. But I am not worried about those at this time. So next up is getting a proper seat and steering wheel. Does anyone know if I get more horsepower with Red or Yellow stickers I forget? Until tomrrow guys... Oh yeah I almost forget it has a (red neck) short shift kit they actually cut the shift rod in half. Which begs the question Who does that?

OK so we really got into it today. We did new shocks and lowering springs. We went with KYB Whites and Eibach Springs. We did brakes and rotors all the way around and I pulled the stereo and all the speakers. What fun I had to do rear wheel bearings on both sides and an alignment but damn it drives great. Tomorrow I tear into the front. I will update with photos as I have taken some. The blower motor is not working so next week is electrical.
