I have a DSG and it has an S on the MFD as one of the gears. What is it? And how is it different than throwing the car into the DSG mode?

"S" is for the Sport mode. It raises the rpm limit for the shifts.

You cannot manually shift the car in "S" mode. If you attempt to use the shifter or paddles to up/downshift, the car reverts back to normal Tiptronic mode.

I guess I'm a geek too. The first thing I did was read my manual front to back. You really find out a lot of good information that way. Anytime I have a question about something like a light on the instrument cluster I just refer to the book.

I mean honestly, it's not like it's a cell phone. Cell phones you get a thick manual in 5 languages, you chuck it and go and never give a shit about 75% of the features of your cell phone. But when it's a car you just spent many thousands of dollars on you gotta read the manual!

I never read mine. At least not until I'm rolling along and find an S button that I have no idea what it is, or why its there! You guys should have told him it stood for stealth or something (at least for a bit).
