I was wondering what would be better. A GTI stock for 29,000 or a Rabbit modded out with suspension, turbo, and brakes for about the same price, if not cheaper. Which would you prefer?

ok im not sure but i dont think the rabbit comes in leather i could be wrong. But if you are paying 29ish for a gti with cloth you are paying to much. I paid 19750 for my gti with package 1.
but if it were up to me i would choose the gti any day of the week.

I guess the main thing is I'd have to give up some of the niceties a GTI provides for suspension and brakes that I would want. I'm looking to drive this on road courses 5 to 8 times per year. One major drawback of the Rabbit is that I can't get the DSG.

$19750? You must have gotten it slightly used then. $29K Canadian is what one would pay for the base GTI north of the border.

The GTI looks way way better than the Rabbit though. Hell, I even prefer the old Golf over the Rabbit.

Ok, so I must be an idiot, but I thought the Rabbit was just a rebadged Golf (i.e. the same body as the GTi) is this not true?

It is the same body as the GTI, but not the same grill and a couple other small details.

What are your thoughts on the new Rabbit with the 2.5 liter 5 cylinder? They look incredibly similar to the GTi, but they don't seem to be performance geared. But do you belive that for around 15k it's a good deal?

But does the rabbit have the same motor as the beetle. If so hpa has a 550 2.5 twin turbo in a beetle.

driving a 5 cyl is actually great. they have a great pur to them! as for a rabbit. the 2.5 has good pick up, but without a turbo it just doesnt get that power beef that you get in the gti. otherwise its a great car. besides a few styling factors its the same car, and start around 15k

no i dont want a thunder bunny. there nice and all, but im addicted to turbo. that pic was hot though! too bad it wasnt a gti
