I just bought my first car, a Vw 2001 gti vr6, but i bought it very cheap from a guy who used to use it for racing and the car is really loud. I don't know much about cars but i think it has a a straight/test pipe installed which i could get in trouble for driving it in the streets so I've heard. Can any one tell me what my options are? How much will it cost to get all that fixed?

Also the guy gave me some piece he welded off the car. He said it made the car faster taking that off.

Ill post pictures/ a video tomorrow if someone can please tell me what the hell it is.

Depends on your budget man. I think the noise limit on cars in most places is around 95dB, so you could see what your levels are before doing anything. If it does fail, then I think you'll have to get a new exhaust system.

you can alway take it to a local exhaust shop and have them weld in a muffler

The noise level isn't really going to matter if your state has emissions and requires a cat. The part he "welded off" is probably the cat. Just get the cat welded back on. Probably your cheapest option. And that will quiet it down too.
