this is probably a silly question, but what is the GTI; a Rabbit or a Golf or just a GTI?

In the US and of A, there is no more Golf. Just Rabbits and GTIs. Marketing ploy by VW to have the names lure back in people who had em in the 70s and 80s

This kinda pertains to this post. But i have always wondered doea anyone know what GTI stands for. Everyone probably knows this except me i feel like a moron asking this but i already did it so i cant undo whats bin done. ???

Good question...I'd like to know what it stands for too, especially since it appears to be its own animal, in the US anyway. The VW guy called me the other day and said congrats on your '07 Rabbit purchase. ...I said, "my what?"

Do a little searching on this forum and you'll find out that it stands for Gran Tourismo Inezzione or Grand Trourisme Injection, whatever language you prefer.

It's also called a "Golf GTI" in Germany too, but on this side of the pond, where there is no more golf, it's a GTI. It was probably VW's strategy to release it before the new Rabbit, so that nobody calls it a Rabbit GTI.
