the part i picked up for about 45 bucks and install was done at my vw dealership it was roughly a half hour of work and they charged me about 60 bucks for that, while keeping my factory warranty =) i didnt see the point of paying 180 dollars for an aftermarket shift lever when the r32 already has one made by vw and it does the same thing for cheaper and keeping the warranty

Yea, it's the Shortshifter from the MKIV R32. The service advisor expressed doubts that it would fit but he's really cool and he's like "Heck, let's try and if don't fit, then it don't and no harm done."

That's all I asked for.

Can you tell us the part number? This way I can ask my dealer to install the same. Thanks. 8)

I don't have the part no. in front of me or readily accessible (I'm in alabama delivering my GTI to its purchaser but that's another thread).

BUT, we did try to install it and it did not fit......The tech said the pin on the MKIV short shifter was to thick to fit the shift cable (did I get that right??) or for the cable to mount on it or something like that.

He also said that in his opinion there was little or no difference between the stock component and the MKIV short shifter.

Keep in mind this was on a 2008 MKV so that could be a factor. But all I know I ended paying for .5 of labour to find this out....:( Nothing but good things with this car...
