Guys- Was at the dealer today to get an oil change at 2500 miles. They told me NOT to do it until 5000 miles for proper break in. I figured they should know best so I will wait. While there I was told of a service bulletin (not a recall) for a loose fuel line that runs up and under the dash area by the front passenger area behind the glove box. This confirms that I am NOT crazy as I have been hearing an intermitant rattle from that are at idle. Be sure to plan ahead for your next scheduled maintenance and have them fix this. It will take several hours so make the dealer give you a loaner car for free; my dealer said he would w/ no problem..... I wasted 2 hours for nothing today, but at least I learned of the bulletin and they gave me a full detail in & out for free!!

Sweet - so they will probably have to take apart the entire dash to get to the line. In the process they will most likely just create more rattles in the process.

I have not heard this rattle yet in my car. I don't think I'll have them mess with it unless it appears. Don't fix what isn't broken. ;D

I was wondering what the hell that noise was. I'll have to get that taken care of.

Edit: I've also had issues with it not wanting to start in the mornings. There's a known software issue that can cause that, though the TSB describes some different symptoms.

Do you have a TSB nuber for this? If I go into the dealership tomorrow I'd like to let them know that they can't bullshit me by telling me there's no issue.

That is the only svc. bulletin I know of thus far. I will get mine fixed at 5000 mile svc. If they create more rattles I'll keep bringing it back until they are all fixed. Svc. Rep. said it was no big deal and they have done several already. Happens to the Jetta's as well as the chassis are pretty much the same. Cars are meant to be worked on if needed...... my opinion.

I dont have this rattle in my car or at least I cant hear it over the motor..
I'm a little leary about bringing my car to the dealer I bought it from to have a "rattle" fixed since the already fixed my brake lamp problem with a ZIP TIE!!

My rattle started a week ago, as I rolled over 18000 miles. I called and they acted clueless until I said "well according to a TSB I read on a VW forum, its the fuel line" ;D How do I give karma to the entire site for once again being The Greatest Source of Info? Thanks MFG

OMG! Just this morning I heard something near my GloveBox and it drove me crazy.

Loose ammunition? Nope.
Errant Pen? Nope
Old Lipstick? Nope

I bet that's the noise I am hearing. THANX FOR THE INFO! I'll have my dealer inspect that at my next service.

I think I'm hearing the rattle now too a little bit. Does it sound more like a pencil rattling in the glove box or a larger item rattling? What I'm hearing sounds more like a pencil in the glove box.

I got that rattle after my 1st oil change. I went back and they changed a couple of parts. As mentioned before it takes a better part of the day to change it.
