Does anyone know if there is a way to reprogram the stock keyless entry (the remote key part itself) such that I can use it with a remote starter?
/Begin speculation
I would assume that it would have to be done using a VAGCOM. My thought is that you could set it up so that if you hold down a specific button on the remote for a specific length of time, you could send a signal to the car which would in turn signal the remote starter to do its thing. Of course the signal being sent to the remote starter would have to be set up in the car some how, but I have no idear how. I know that the option to open/close your windows using the remote is already built-in and simply needs to be activated, but using the same line of reasoning, can a separate function be built into the remote and car? Since there is no pre-set bit in the car's software for a remote starter (like the one to open/close windows from the remote) , does anyone know of any "spare" or "dummy" bits in the software that can be used (and programmed using the VAGCOM tool) to send a signal to the remote starter to do what I'm trying to?
/End speculation

I've googled this topic and it seems a lot of the older Vdubs were reprogrammable...but didn't see anything for the MKV yet.

I'd rather not have to go back to the dealer and spend $$ for them just to give me a new key with a starter button.

I dont think this speculation could be true, coz what i know is that the remote starter doesnt even have a signal RECIEVER, it's just made to send the signal and not to recieve and send!

why r u doing all this, u could just buy a new remote that can be loaded some signals, and if u know someone that knows how to make an engine starter manually (here where i live, u can do it easily) and u can load the same signals from the original remote for other options like opening and locking doors or windows...

Well, what I meant by sending a signal to the remote starter was that the car's remote could send a signal to the car (or maybe even the starter itself now that i think about it) similar to how and actual remote starter works: A signal from the remote of the starter would be sent to the starter itself to tell it to do its thing. So instead of using a separate remote, use your cars remote to do the same thing.
Question: If you take it to the dealer and have them do it, they would probably give you a new remote (one with the additional button for the starter). Wouldn't this new remote use your cars software in some fashion (verification and such) in order to start the car?

The reason I'm trying to do this is because I love my mercedes-style stock key and i'd hate to carry a remote starter on the keychain in addition to the stock key.

I don't know all of the details, but it seems like there should be a way to program the stock key to start the car. OR....are there remote starters with changeable frequecies? This way, you can match the frequency of the starter to that of your stock remote. Just random thoughts..

i appreciate both suggestions, i think a company as big as VW should make an extra future option that the owner may use, why not email the company and ask them if this is true or not, coz i think u can't have the answer from the dealer, i mean maybe even the dealer dont have info about this thing...
let me know if u find any solution...
