In the Popped Tire Didn?t Notice thread, someone ( I think it was GranTourismoInection) mentioned that his replacement tire was going to cost $512. I have paid under $250 for one directional racing tires before. Is he for real? Is that the going rate? I do not need new tires yet, but cannot see paying that for each. So, IF he is not talking out of his ass, what are good alternative tires that any of you have used on a GTI. If it helps, I have 18" Huffs.

Please keep your responses to actual experience. I have had my fill of: "Don?t get brabd X, they suck.", or "Don?t get brand Y, they are made in Afganistan.". The advice that flows the free-est on here, comes from people that are clueless about what you are talking about in the first place.

If you want an accurate price estimate on new tires just go to Tire Rack or Discount Tire Direct. Here you'll find a good variety of brands, performance levels, and prices.

Why ask someone else and take the chance that they are full of shit when you could just do the research yourself?

Haha, I think I know who you're talking about. ;)

I think he was just saying what VW quoted him, which is obviously way over normal market value. They'll also charge like $150 labor to change the tires too.

VW & The Tire Shop I went to both quoted over CAD$500

VW would give a bit of a discount to $475, but no more.

I went to a actual tire shop and they did it 'at cost' because they said they felt bad I already popped a tire with less then 2K on it. (and they have had my business before and know I will be back). The receipt lists the cost (before tax) on the tire as $366.00 But that did not include mount and balance. My cost out the door was $420.

LOL. I love how everyone keeps accusing me of being full of shit and doubting what I am saying. Why would I lie about popping a tire? I made a few assumptions in my first post that were incorrect and I corrected what I said, but still.

I wanted to replace the popped tire with the same brand and model tire, that is why it cost so much. I got an identical tire.

The full of hsit comment was more in general than pointed at you. I am just sick of advice from people that clearly do not know what they are talking about. My fovorite had to be "Dude just sue them under the lemon law" for a second time occurance of an issue with someones car. "You could get a new GTI out of it". They have heard of lemon law, and it is easy to tell someone else to do it. Not as easy in the real world, and that happens to be where I spend most of my time.

As for the tire. AHHHHHHHHHH, Canadian $. That is better. Still not great, but better.

Again, did not mean to call you out indiviudually, but you did sound out there a bit.

Wasn't me, the only thing I've had to replace so far was my driver's side window (stolen radar), and that was about $450.

*Edit* It was nitroburn
