I talk to people all the time saying a certain import is the most reliable car on the market. WTF are these people smoking? I sold them. I had all kinds of problems with these cars. I really think it is hilarious when someone tells me they had one of these imports and it is the most reliable cars on the planet and VW has tons of problems. First off, this "reliable" car doesn't have shit on it. I sold Kia Rios and "they" were more reliable than nearly every car I ever sold. But, They didn't have crap on them. Most of the ones I sold didn't even have power steering or A/C?

Vedubs have more systems on board than the other car has features. When was the last time you saw an entry level "reliable" car that had abs, esp, asr, brake assist, dual deployment air bags, disc brake wipers, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, electromechanical power steering and/or even 12 way adjustable seats. By the way all of those things are standard on a Value Edition Jetta.

Most "Reliable" manufactures sell mainly LX's and CE's that don't have squat on them. Not to mention these customers don't really expect a lot out of their car. Basic transportation, as long as it runs every day and gets them to work and back it's considered reliable, to these people it doesn't matter if you live or die on the way as long as you're reliable.

You're correct on some budget cars but some of the most reliable cars made are also some of the most complex. The Lexus LS430 has been the most reliable car for the last 15 years and it has a ton of complex systems/electronics.

As far as the Kia, I believe it may be the most unreliable car made according to these surveys.

I've heard that the newest reliability ratings(JD power) are going to be changed to focus more on these complex systems.

The more systems the more likely something will go wrong. Just the nature of the beast.

It depends on the drivers of these cars as well. Some gear head might pick up on a noise under the hood, where another driver might not notice it and only care that the heated seat work 100% of the time.

just because cars have more features dosent mean they are unreliable....my father has a 2003 LS430 and it is flawless...... vw is having issues with features because majority of them are made in mexico .....the passat (made in germany) with the same 1.8t is more reliable than the last genneration jetta wich was made in mexico thank fully VW smartened up and is making the rabbit and MKV GTI in europe as for kia there korean ...enough said

Ok I talked to vw representative two days ago when i test drowe the new gti..... and he said that jetta and rabbit parts are made in germany but assebled in mexico, also gti and passat are made and essebled in germany, and toureng is made somewhere in hungary i think

On the sticker for my GTI it said it was assembled in Wolfsburg, Germany . . . I only thought that Ford Festivas were built in Mexico

The best passenger car (excluding SUV's and Trucks) I have seen in a collision was an 04 VW beetle. It T-boned a 2005 Nissan Maxima. Both people in the Nissan got to meet St. Peter. The driver of the VW was just upset about the accident, other than that, not a scratch. I would swear that she could have driven her banged up car away if the local PD didn't impound it for the pending fatal accident investigation.

I was impressed.

reliability? who knows. i guess it's something we will see over time. vw is knowon to have electrical problems, but i havent heard about many others yet...

for safety, a volvo is your best bet no matter what youre considering
