So alittle more research I do and the rollout for R32 has begun, VW has so info on upcoming arrival on their web site. Can I hear what people thing on choosing between the two if money was not the factor? Why would one be better over the other.....? Thanks.

Re: GTI or R32

If money wasn't a factor, I would definetly go with the R32. Its got more Hp, torque, V6, AWD, and more speed because of it. The only problem is that the R32 is probably out of my price range.
Re: GTI or R32

dude i am in the same situation as you...i cant decide either. i have read that the R32 will be about 32,990 at the start and 1800 with Nav. and plus destination fee so about 35,000. the GTI on the other hand is cheaper and has good performance quality but not as good as the R32... I wanna get more performance so im gonna go put in a deposit and try to negotiate to make the price stay close to 30k. but if it doesnt work out on the R32, then im gonna get a GTI. If money isnt a problem for you then you should get an R32, it has better looks, performance, comes with all wheel drive, recaro sport seats, and well better colors like blue... and plus the R32 is a rare car that people dont see very much.
Re: GTI or R32

honestly... for 32g... thats a lot for a 250hp sport car
Re: GTI or R32

r32?

talk about overpriced. if i wanted an awd hatchback with a v6 and dsg for 35k id just get an audi a3 s line.

honestly, the whole point of the gti is to have a car thats awesome for its price. the r32 shouldnt warrant an extra 10k+ over the sticker, for that kind of money you can get a new g35 sedan or a loaded 350z.
Re: GTI or R32

...or an EVO for that matter. i4 AWD 300hp...
Re: GTI or R32

Yeah, but thats Mitsubishi, plus, the insurance is crazy.

Anyways, you guys better decide soon if you guys want an R32, because there are only 5,000 coming to the U.S.... :-\
Re: GTI or R32

After I asked the question last night I went to bed, and thought, I really think they are 2 seperate cars, and price not being an issue, I agree, that for 35k, one could get a high performance 350Z, a much different car. For me then, there is not a GTI with a 10K option, there is either a GTI or R32, but you cannot say they are the same, in my book
Re: GTI or R32

People are complaining about the cost of the R32 compared to the EVO and GTi. But he asked what would be your choice if money wasn't a factor.
Re: GTI or R32

I know United, I asked the question, but money no factor, yes, then the R32 over the GTI, but at that number the field has much to offer
Re: GTI or R32

I would take an R32 over an EVO any day. Mitsubishi's are garbage. Not many people will have an R32.

Yeah dude, Mitsubishi would go bankrupt if they tried releasing only 5,000 EVO's over here. That says a lot about quantity vs. quality.
Re: GTI or R32

so youre saying just because a manufacturer sells a small amount of a certain car that it will have higher quality?

yeah i respect the r32, but honestly, if someones tossing me the keys to a loaded up 2007 g35 or an r32, im taking the g35. if vw is gonna sell a "performance" car for 35k, it damn well better be at least throwin down 0-60 in the low 5s. with the competition in todays market, its absurd to do what theyre doing. yes handling matters, but u cant say dollar for dollar there arent other cars that are way better then the r32

You will never have the fastest or the best car. Unless you're rolling down the street in a Veyron, your car is inferior. Some people don't want to sacrifice comfort and build quality for horsepower they will probably never use, because how many times a day to you race people on the streets? (Honestly, most of the "races" people talk about involve one car that didn't even know there was a race...) It's all about personal tastes, nothing else, and to me, the GTI/R32 is the look I want with the level of comfort I want.

Also, about my last post, I never suggested that the less there is of a car, the better quality it is. I merely stated a hypothesis about the Evo failing with those kinds of numbers being sold, then asked the reader to draw their own conclusions about it.

true, im just saying for the money, you can get a car with the same features and better performance. its not right to compare an evo to an r32 because theyre 2 completely different cars. and to be honest, id take an r32 over the evo, because, youre right, most people dont even relize its a race and you dont need something thats strictly for racing. but youre saying youd pay 35k for an r32? and im not saying i want the fastest car, but i do want the best car for the money, dont you?

btw dont take any of this offensively, im not trying to start s**t
Re: GTI or R32

anybody driven that new G35? A friend of mine got one, i love it, looks sick, pretty damn fast, and sounds very nice too. I would consider myself a pretty dedicated VW lover, but i would absolutely take the G35 over the R32, it's simply a better car for the price.

Yeah man, I hear where you're coming from. I would definitely not get the R32 over a G35 a or similarly priced car with more HP and the same features. Plus, that G35 has a NICE sounding engine/exhaust, one of the nicest in my opinion.

for sure. the new coupe is gonna be even sicker
Re: GTI or R32

So this topic can get pretty heated, it sounds like the R32 is nice, but maybe gimicky for VW to do. Where the GTI really fills a nice niche and give GREAT driver performance FOR the money.
Re: GTI or R32

I think that, for the money, the GTI is hands down the better car. I have said it before, if VW had put the 3.6 liter in this new r32 and made it the r36, we would have an entirely different discussion, and the r36 would be blowing everything in that price range out of the water. With the "puny" 3.2 liter in it though, i wouldn't waste my time with it and if i were in the market for a car in that price range, it wouldn't even make my list.
