I'm also having a problem with my compass I was hoping maybe some of you had some incite on.

It's bassackwards. It correctly shows North and South, but East and West are backwards. When I'm driving East it says I'm going West and vice-versa.

I have gone through the calibration process about 6-7 times driving around in circles in my culdisack making my neighbors think I'm crazy, and I've also set the magnetic variation to my zone. I don't have the DVD nav system either.

Just wondering if there was a quick fix I could do myself instead of making an appointment at the dealership. We've only had our "fast-sedan" for 3 days now and I really don't want to have to go back to my Civic while it's at the dealer. Even just grannying it around during the break in period is more enjoyable than driving that old Civic.

I'll try that tonight and see what happens, if that doesn't fix it I have an appointment on Thursday at the dealer to have it looked at.

I'll update this on the fix for it once it actually gets fixed, in case someone else happens to run across this problem.

Thanks Dragon. :)

So here I am after a while, I finally got this fixed.

They ordered a new compass unit (the one that goes in the trunk or whatever) and installed it. I sat there and waited for it to get done. 1.5 hours later she's done!!

Awesome I can get out of the damn waiting room. Go sign for the car, grab the keys and get ready to roll out. I hop in the car, fire it up...and the compass appears to be working right! But wait, the car was parked south, which worked fine in the first place. So I pull it out, turn East, and what do you know, the compass is still displaying West. WTF...

I go grab the service department dude, and proceed to bitch him out. Who the hell "fixes" a car and doesn't check to see that he actually fixed it. You know, a good ol' ops check. It was kinda funny because he told me I'd be getting some survey in the mail and to give him good marks. Bet that ruined his day.

So I had to leave the car there, by that time I had missed half the day of work already.

When I picked up the car after work it was fixed. The whole problem was that the compass control unit was installed from the factory backwards. Then the service tech installed the new one backwards. Idiot. They told me there was actually 2 units, one for N, S, and another for E, W. Thats why it was only E and W that was F'd up.

So if anyone else has this problem, check that first and save yourself an afternoon in the waiting room.

EDIT: This was at David Maus VW, formerly Classic VW in Orlando. Apparently not the sharpest knives in the drawer.
