Re: Plaid Cloth or Leather?

If you can afford the leather, why wouldn't you get it?

Sure the plaid is cool in a retro kind of way, but the leather is more luxurious. Cloth will stain if you spill anything. Leather is more comfortable. Sit in them both and I think the choice is easy, if it's too expensive though, and you're worrying about not being able to afford it, the cloth is still a nice choice and is probably better than the cloth in most cars.

i think the leather is a much better choice. The leather seats are a nice bucket seat unlike that of the cloth. Its especially nice for those long car drives. The heated seats that come with the leather are also very clutch for those cold mornings. I had no problem dishing out the extra dough for the nice leather seats

The leather will probably be paired with a much more option package (as much as $27,000!) For that kind of money I'd be checking out an A3.

The base model is just fine along with it's funky plaid. The seats are bolstered nicely and again the interlagos cloth harkens back to when this car was an affordable pocket rocket--arguably the trend-setter in that regard.

If you figure out which other options you want/ don't want (i.e. Nav system, moonroof, TPMS etc.) the interior choice will be made for you.

I went with the base because it's the guts of the car I care about, not so much the interior. $1500 less on leather means $1500 more for chipping, intake, intercooler, and exhaust. Just my 2 cents, as long as you asked.

Leather!

I totally hate the cloth seats, have to be some of the ugliest I've seen. But go with what you can afford.

And yes, the leather seats feel awesome hugging your body on long drives. Tweak up the lumbar adjustment to where you want it and it is perfect.

and to ande1978, its not $1500... double that...

"The total MSRP of this vehicle will increase $3,160." as you have to get package 2

This requires the selection of:

Item(s) Price
Leather Seating Surfaces $0
Package #2 w/SIRIUS Satellite Radio $3,160
Top Front Sport Seats $0

I loved the leather seats in the other car I test drove. The hug your sides a lot better, and yet aren't uncomfortable just cruising. I ended up with cloth, which I also love, and saved myself a couple grand.

Re: Plaid Cloth or Leather?

The biggest thing for me was that the seats had to say "GTI" on them, like in previous versions. My old Jetta was a TREK edition and the seats were really cool fabric seats that said "TREK" on them, so why shouldn't my GTI have the logo on the seats? Since the cloth seats didn't have it, I had to get the leather. Totally worth it.

MY 2 CENTS:

I wanted the cloth interior first but the dealership didn't have a black gti with cloth and the 18s. They did have a package 2 leather 18s that i did buy.

The main reasons I didn't want the leather was the cars with leather came with the automatic climate control and power lumbar seats (more electical crap to break , which has broken many times <lumbar seat>) I hate the ATC. I perfer the manually dash knobs.

Plus the leather is too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer.

And the leather adds a few more pounds to the car with the motors for the power lumbar.

This one usually turns into a discussion of the "haves" and "have nots". Truthfully, leather is fine but I couldn't justify the additional $$. The interior could be purple vinyl and I wouldn't give a shit. It's the history and the guts that make this car sweet IMHO.

And the FAST ad campaign is pretty cool too.

I am going to hate myself but I actually agree with you......except for that purple thing.

Re: Plaid Cloth or Leather?

I got the plaid seats in my car...mainly cuz it costed a lot with the leather and all the stuf that comes with it. but i got plaid seats w/ the NAV and moonroof. i kept it simple, but i still paid about 27,000 for it. for some reason with the GTI fully loaded with all the extra stuff the price was around 31,000 so i had to get the plaid seats. they look pretty cool to me, i mean i like the thought of my car being one of the very few with plaid seats. haha lil weird but i like the uniqueness of the car. but the leather is pretty nice, but the thing i hate is that after a while the leather starts breaking and strechting and all that junk and then eventually will make ur interior look old. haha on the plaid...if u smoke for example, then the smell will get into the cloth and will make it smell. but that is easily fixed, spray some febreeze over it haha Both Plaid and Leather are good choices for the GTI. both are equally as comfortable as the other, thats just an opinion tho.
