Sure the GTI is nice, but that GT500 is going to be a collector's car within the next 20 years. It is so fast for the price, looks like a beast and probably growls like one too.

If I had to pick one over the other, I'd take the GT500 any day.

Gotta tell ya........the GTI sounds great. As good or better than the Shelby.

The GTI is a blast to drive and it handles, in my opinion only, better than the Shelby.

The GTI was about $20,000.00 less than the GT500.

I know the Shelby may increase in value but the GTI is my daily driver.

I love cars......I traded in a Turbo Beetle for the GTI!

Rock on...............

Mike.

Can't beat V8 American muscle for the sound, and I love the styling. But the 4 banger, and cargo space make the GTi a more practical buy. If money wasn't a factor, I would go for the GT500.
If money wasn't a factor - I'd buy a Viper ;D

BTW - Really nice combo of cars. You have a ton of All-American muscle and a convenient German piece of engineering. Awesome!

Lets not forget the semi-creative commercial for the GT500 where the guy exports it to Germany (i think) and there is that clever exchange on the docks.. Oh the irony!

here's the vid

I passionately HATE that commercial. Sure the GT500 is a nice fast car, but have it passing an M3 not a half a million dollar Carrera GT. It might be clever, but it hit a nerve in me and I didn't like it.

friend of mine has the new mustang and is having a few problems with wheel hop and such...he is definatly a mustang person (had many classic mustangs including the Hertz which they only made a few of back in the day) but he loves the car...has great pick up and sounds amazing...

here's a picture of it in front of my house

and here's a picture of my little Jetta close to being sold for a GTi

Between these two I would pick the GT500. But if money wasn't a factor and I could pick any car, it would have to be a Ford GT. Because even though there are more expensive Euro cars out there, no one has a Ford GT. It would almost be one of a kind. I 've never seen one on the road. But when I sat in the one at the delearship, I was in love.

You guys are all great!

Shelby = big hot wheel.

GTI = fast and super fun daily driver.

Here is a pic from my 2001 Turbo Beetle on a typical Manitoba winter highway.

Dangerous.

The quality of VW is unsurpassed.

This board is more laid back and fun then the Shelby Mustang ones.

Cheers!
