Okay guys, I bought my fast a little over 3 weeks ago. The first weekend I took it on a road trip over 300 miles away. Since then, I've only had a chance to drive it in town. It's driving me nuts. I only live about 4 miles from work. By the time I punch it, I'm already at work. Its a 35 zone the entire way and I'm finding it difficult to keep it under 45. I find myself at night staring at it, wanting to take it out for a spin. >:D

lol. be careful though. ill tell oyu one thign right now. all that is logged on the onboard ECU.

we scanned one of our Local VW's guys.

there was a code that wasnt thrown and only to be seen by the vagcom that said.

"maximum speed exceeded, please void warranty. :)"

just like that. i BS you not and i swear it on my GTI. so before going to a dealership i always try and clear my codes with a vagcom.

While I sympathize, remember what a warranty is. When a company sells you a car, included is a warranty of merchantability and a warranty of fitness for a particular purpose. Essentially, it means the company is responsible for ensuring the car you bought performs as it should. However, in every contract I write (not automotive), I make sure that I only warrant to the extent the product is appropriately used.

If you aftermarket your car to rag it out, potentially causing or accelerating wear and tear, I can understand why the dealership would want to void the warranty.

FYI, this is the first time I've EVER taken the side of a dealership. I feel kind of dirty, and not in a good way.

I agree with "dean" on this one. As the customer, I wish it weren't so. But if I were to put myself in the manufacturer's position I would definitely void the warranty. If I built a product and warranted it to perform within certain parameters, then the customer modified my design and pushed it beyond the original performance envelope, I would decline any sort of responsibility.

It sucks, but look at it from both perspectives.

IMO I believe that redlining the engine repeatedly over the time you own the car would do more damage than a top speed run. Also, I thought that in germany they didnt have a speed limiter placed into the ecu and i dont believe that VW is going to void european warrenties for execeeding 230km/h

Ok Alf, now you got me wondering. I have no chip, all stock, and I pushed my car to the limit twice (140) You're telling me my warranty is now voided? Please tell me this is only if you've modded the ECU etc

If that's true, Big Brother has one... I'm not doubting you at all, I have no clue(that's for sure), but it's absolute bullshit for a manufacturer to advertise a "sports" car and then penalize you for using it. Hopefully on track
