My dealer is retarded

Ok so my whip hit the 5,000 mile mark on the weekend so it was time for its first service well my dealer isnt open on the weekends ( Jonsey: the dealer part is open but not the service) so I had to wait untill wednesday to get my car in. I roll in a little early and they have room so they can get to it, they change the oil and all is good but the MFD still says "service now" when you start the car.... So I go back in and tell the service writer and he says "oh sorry ill get somone right out" so the guy comes out and looks at my GTI and says get this "Oh I dont know how to turn that off on these" then looks at me and asks if I have my owners manual in the car so they could look at it! I about died laughing, but to my dismay it was no joke these "VW techncians" cant turn the "service now" script off......
needless to say that is the last time I go to that dealer.

I didn't think the North America cars had the "service now" enabled on them. Not to make excuses for your dealer (or former dealer) cause that is just funny although I would imagine embarrassing on their part.

Has anyone else gotten the "service now" display on their cars? I'm still shy of 2k miles on mine so I haven't experienced this yet.
i haven't gotten it yet, but my manual does mention it
yeah, i did-and boy did it get pissed at me. I was on a road trip and had no choice to run over 5kby about 300 miles. Ive never heard my MFD scream so loudly. My dealer, while retarded for a whole variety of reasons, did manage to turn it off after the oil change though. My dealer thinks the air vent in the center of the dash is a speaker though....thats a pretty good one...a speaker which you can adjust the flow of sound out of and direct it towards your face, feet, etc...
Glad my old Jetta didn't have that feature. I was about 5,000 miles past the 60,000 mile service point. I've told my story here about not being able to get a timing belt change at a piss-poor Massachusetts VW dealership. So anyway, I then proceeded to drive the car 2000 miles from Boston to western Canada before I finally got the thing serviced.
That MFD screams about anything. I ran out of wiper fluid on Monday and not only would that fucking thing flash at me every other minute, but it'd beep at me while I was driving. I finally got fed up and bought 5 gallons of fluid.
my thing beeps at me all the time. first for gas being too low, then for wipers then for service...i pretty much never saw my clocks with all of those damn messages

I got the "service now" light yesterday and dropped the car off at the dealer today for its first oil change.
Thanks! Now I'll just have to check out how I can reset it through the vag-com. I think I might have disabled the option when I was changing preferences. Guess we will see if it screams at me.
The thing doesn't let you go far without a seatbelt on. It's like a nagging mother.
And god forbid you let it get below a quarter tank.

The seatbelt thing isn't too bad if you turn the radio up. I have to drive my garbage to the dumpster on the other side of my apartment complex so I make that (5 mph) run without my seatbelt and stereo blasting all the time.
I also just passed 5k and it shows up Service Now everytime i start the car. I dont know how to get ride of it i thought after the oil change it would go away but i guess not. Let me know if anyone knows how to remove it.
this happened to my dads maxima but he was too lazy to bring it in so he waited until his next service appointment and then had them fix it.
You don't need a dealer or a vag-com to reset the service reminder. Turn the key on don't start the car. Hold the trip odometer reset button"o.o" until "service now" is displayed. Let that button go then push the "m" on the left side. service now will disappear. Correct me if this doesn't work . you might have to hold the button down first then turn the key until the service now appears.
Do you know if that works with all reminders?
No I don't know but I think that is all it will do is reset the service reminder.

Well I know the Vagcom is what they use at the dealer to reset the reminder but They wouldn`t tell me how to reset it. If I can get info out of the dealer I will post it up.
