MoonRoof Vibration

Hi, I have had my Magic Black MKV for about 3 weeks. Today was our first NH nice day and I opened the moon roof. From my other VW's I know that if you open it all the way w/o cracking the windows it makes a helicoptor sound. What my MKV is doing is it vibrates the roof if I don't have the windows half open. This happens if the moon roof is open more than half way. Has anyone experienced this? I wanted to check out there 1st before complaining to the dealer.

First of all, welcome to the site

I drive an '01 passat waggon and I have noticed the exact same thing when opening the moon roof and having the windows closed. I also have a few friends that have VWs and its the same for them. I think its a design flaw that VW just hasnt taken care of.
Audis have it too, but doesn't every car when you leave the windows closed?

I noticed this as well with my car. It has something to do with a pressure change. I noticed though, if u open the sunroof and then open the windows for a second and then close them again it will not do it anymore. Give it a try it worked for me
I saw this same problem probably 40 times when I was a tech at a Mitsubishi dealership a few years back. It was caused by the rails the window rides on collecting dirt and debris. In conjunction with poor quality grease, the friction of the glass sliding on the rails made it shudder when it was being opened. This usually happened mostly with people who frequently used the sunroof. Mitsu put out a recall for it, but the percentage of vehicles this happened to was pretty small.

Could be something to look into. I'd take it into the dealership.
I drive a C-class Mercedes Benz, and have never had any vibration from the moon/sun roof at any opening position or at any speed.
I had a '64 Bug that did this as well, and that was the first year VW had a sliding sunroof. Every VW I've ever been in with the exception of my '69 Bus (4" sunroof) that had a sliding sunroof has done this. Therefor I consider it a "quirk" not a "flaw". My solution is to tilt the roof if the windows are shut, and open the windows to slide it.
Just open a rear side window a tiny bit. You want air rushing through the car anyway, don't you?
this happens in most cars that have good door seals if you just barly crack the window open this will go away its has to do with pressure differential inside the car and out
Yeah, the pressure differentiation actually creates a weak vacuum, so the sound you hear is really air being sucked out of your car; the rapid motion of this air could easily create a vibration on the sunroof.
Mine gets really bad at around 50 mph. It makes my rear view mirror shake. Reminds me of when I had a pair of crappy 10's in the trunk of my old high school beater car.
Anyone know if they make some sort of wind deflector to eliminate that problem.
If you go to vwvortex.com, they have the issue at hand and have a Do It Yourself manual.
The rattling is caused by a clear plastic ring which is around the nozzle control for the sunroof.
It didn't seem like a hard thing to do; go check it out!
My moonroof does not rattle or vibrate but i've heard of others who have said a thing or two about it. No probs with the car yet "knock on wood" I've had it a little over 3mths cant complain.
I also have not encountered any rattling and only limited air-decompression at higher speeds (60mph+), which is normal.

Hey there, I have had my fast for about a week now and I am seeing the same thing happening. I have had several cars with moon roofs and it seems like its normal but definitely the fast has been the one with most vibrations.

Oh well... I guess the HP makes up for the moon roof vibrations.
I also get too much vibration from my open roof. I have found nothing aftermarket.
Just purchased 07 and second day i had it, i noticed that sound / vibration aswell. easy fix as stated above is to crack the window but can be distracting. just my 2cents.

They have a sunroof air deflector on the vw gti accessories page...but when you try to build your own it doesn't give you that option. I forgot to ask the dealer, I was thinking of getting one.
I dont have any problems with sunroof. There is a spoiler that pops up when i open the sunroof and if i push it down withmy hand then i get the vibrations, so i guess its doing its job :)
