I drove in my friends 320whp 02 wrx and it was sooo fast it turned
Me on to them so I test drove a 03 with a tbe and I fell in love with it it was only
On a
Straight road though so I don't know how they are on turns and such
But ever since I got my gti I love it it's so fun to drive anywhere.
I think I'm going to stay with a gti for a while :)

I think its time VW made a car that can keep up with the wrx. A turbocharged R32. It should have 350 hp stock. and come with a wide body kit. prices starting at 45k.
45k doesnt really float in the same boat as the wrx. The wrx is a 25k car, sti at 35k, so at 45k is quite a bit out of the range of both cars.

I love wrx's, one friend of mine has an 02 that we have done much work to ourselves, and the car is stable and fast. Another friend of mine has a 500+whp 04 sti and that thing is a beast. For the money, the wrx/sti is a great platform to mod on and is super easy.

The 02 wrx has stood the test of time. Many times that car has been off road, on dirt trails hanging the a$$ out sideways, soft silty sand of dry lakes, and jumped feet in the air and it keeps on going. I wish I had pictures of it in the air, but we didnt plan on doing it, we just found a nice little place to jump it and did it. My GTI is fun on the street, but the wrx is awesome on the street, and awesome in the dirt/snow.

Stop comparing the STI to the MKV. Ain't the same f***in' ballpark, it ain't the same league, it ain't even the same f***in' sport. Just cause my MKV puts down over 300 torque doesn't mean it's even close to and STI's performance. The STI can and will run with M3s and Porsches. Just cause the price is within range, doesn't mean it's a comparable car. That's what makes the STI such a great bargain. Now the regular WRX is a pretty close adversary to a mildly tuned MKV. My MKV is pretty damn fast, but I don't **** with STIs
man best thing i caught out of this whole thread. plausably my favorite movie of all time.

please dont flame me guys but i think the wrx is better in every category except for gas mileage an looks (cuz thats just personal taste anyways.)But the main thing is price of parts you could get the same mods on a wrx for half the price of gti's.thats why most of them are faster. But I do agree vw has the a MUCH better interior.

The sti is on par with Bt GTi's where as the WRX is more like stage 2, no one in a gti with just bolt ons is touching an sti, its just how it goes, stock for stock its like 3.x sec. faster in the 1/4, you may get it so that its only a solid second and a half faster but still thats a long time in racing terms

Again....you may want to check your info......older i think his is an 02 WRX STI's Stock are about around 220-240 "to the wheels"... depending on conditions! MY GTI with APR TUNE 250 to the wheels with 297? lbs tq. at around 2000-3000rpm....thats just the tune! never mind the bolt-ons. as mentioned...My other bud has all types of **** done(too much to mention) I cant even stay 1 car length away! so stock for stock it is faster but with bolt-ons and tune....no chance!

Is that dyno numbers because I have a very hard time believing you will have almost 300 ft/lbs of tq with a chip, edit I checked thats apr's CLAIMED numbers at the CRANK you probably have like 245 ft lbs any MKV guy with apr stage 1 know what actual wheel hp and tq is?

nowhere near those numbers, I'm APR stage 2 and my REAL dyno numbers are 238 whp and 286 ft/lbs. Thats stage 2!

check the sheet

No way is a gti keeping up with a STI I don't care how big the turbo is, unless it is a turbine engine in the hatch. AWD>FWD it's just life.

that was 93 stage 2.

I built my own water meth kit and did some logs on the 100 octane file, it pulled 5-6 degrees of timing with just alittle spray, and with my injector max'd out pulled 2-3 degrees thats with about 6 gph. I uped the meth content to about 75-25 and ran it for awhile on 93 file but never did anymore logs or dyno'd with the water meth.

be careful running that 100 octane file, you should do some timing logs if you havent already and tune the system/nozzles to stop detonation.

Once again proving my point about Lamborghini being the world's best cars.
this is all completely off topic from the general discussion, BUT I own a Ducati Monster S2R1000 with really no mods except I took off the factory exhaust cans, the Catalytic converter on it (aka "the udder") provides ample backpressure, as far as italian engineering over german engineering, I also drive a MKV 6-speed, and I have to say, as far as bikes go, Ducati over BMW any day.... I'll smoke a k1200r on a curvy road any day. but you gotta love the GTI MKV's ingenuity... all I can say about it is two main shafts, and two counter shafts in the manual transmission giving you two final drive ratios, 1-4 3.94:1 and 5-6 3.09:1= great pickup AND great fuel economy.

which WRX r we talking about, the 09+ models now have the STIs turbo, pushing at about 265ish. my fast isnt touching it from a dig or a roll under a mile. BUT my 05 wrx i had, before my fast, was stock, pushing about 235ish and im sure i can take it from a roll. it also had the 2.5t.

Ok, today I was at a stop light with a WRX right next to me. My 08 gti is stock....his had nice rims and a ricer loud muffler. When the light turned green i spun my tires to let him know it was on. I totally blew by him and he wasn't able to catch up. I'm not sure what model he had but it looked new, he had two back spoilers. I knew he had a stick at the light. I have the triptronic which i felt helped cause he lost ground every time he shifted.

I just wanted to throw my $0.02 in here. A LOT of people here are saying "wells my friends..." and "this one time at a stop light...", but not too many really have first hand experience with both cars. I have an 06 GTI and my fiance has an 07 WRX.

The GTI has a nicer interior and no one is contesting that. However, the WRX takes the trophy for anything related to performance. The GTI definitely has less body roll, but the WRX somehow feels safer to drive at its limits. That's probably subject to personal preference though I suppose. I think the two cars feel similarly fast stock. The WRX's awd system offsets its higher power output but definitely lends advantages. You can't even compare the WRX's 4 pot brakes... they're in a different league than the GTI's.

Why would anyone comparing any two cars ever say something like "well with this many mods on my car, I can beat one of those cars (stock)"? Don't compare a chipped GTI to a stock WRX... That's illogical. Compare it to a reflashed WRX. Besides, $1500-$2000 in a WRX can get you 300 whp. I know because I did it. I really doubt I'll be able to do that with my GTI.

The WRX simply out performs the GTI. Subaru's focus with the car is performance. VW wanted to make a well rounded, and they did. Its just a little slower than the competition. I bought the GTI because I feel its a better daily driver but I'd rather take our WRX to the track anyday.

So to summarize:
GTI stereo > WRX stereo
GTI performance < WRX performance

ive had bolth too even a evo and a merc c55 the merc was the best of cousre. but while the GTI might not be the fastest we will look danm good as we are losing lol. but i can tell you this a gti with the same HP as a wrx, the gti will always win. a tale from experience ;D
