my friend is stuck between getting a gti or getting a 328ci [auto] with 30,000 miles on it. im telling him gti, but what do you guys think?

That's a nice ride, but for me, the DSG takes the cake over any traditional auto.

My dad has a 328ci, and when my car was in the shop, I drove it. I learned to drive on that car, and I used to think it was really nice and fast, but when I drove it recently, it felt like a Ford Taurus compared to my GTI. The features, comfort, and speed of the GTI give it the win in my book.
