MKV GTI Gas Mileage Discussion

The car seems to get better and better with more miles adding up on the clock. On my way to work this morning, I averaged 29 mpg. This is according to the MFD of course, but all on city streets. No freeway at all.

Re: MPG

You know what's even better Clavos? The GTI beats the Honda SI in gas mileage but 1 MPG. Honda is getting taken to town by the GTI. By the way you should start a Honda SI vs. GTI thread. Give some vtec heads something to think about! ;D
Re: MPG

The GTI 1.8T had better MPG than the base model Golf. I wonder if that's still the case with the 2.0T?
Re: MPG

First long distance drive over the weekend of 160 miles. Averaged 28.5 mpg. Not even broken in yet w/ only 235 miles.
Re: MPG

My 800 mile road trip a few weeks ago only netted 25 mpg, but I had the cruise at 80 plus the whole way and temps were ranging from 4*f to 40*f.

That is a great ideal. I'll set it up immediately.
how's your MPG?

Inspired by a note from Thalo on the 4 door GTI thread. How's your MPG? Or, uh, kilometers per litre <- ??

I didn't reset the counter for a long time when I got mine, and i was averaging 18 MPG on the first 1000 miles (I suppose mostly city driving, though). Yeah, if I put it in (D), and never push the pedal more than 1/10th down, it goes up a bit, but that's just no fun, and plain mean to the GTI... I have actually pulled 35 MPG on a long freeway stretch going 65 in 6th, but there was never any need to kick in the juice. On many trips I'm in the 15 MPG range, when I'm actually driving how it's meant to be driven.
Re: how's your MPG?

My overall average is 24.7, but it's going to rapidly drop now that my weekend driving consists of a lot of "S" driving.
Re: how's your MPG?

I did the math, and my overall average is about 22, with around 26 on hiways (normally doing around 80mph).

In Canadian I'm averaging about 12L/100km or just under 10L/100km on the hiways (lower is better in the metric version). Nothing like the 6.9L/100km hiway average advertised. Probably could manage that if I drove 80km/h (50mph) all the time on hiways.
Re: how's your MPG?

Between 24-28mpg. Mostly highway.
Re: how's your MPG?

All of my driving is in the city, so I get around 15-18 MPG.
Re: how's your MPG?

my average is about 30MPG down to about 18 when i feel fruity - was about 12MPG when i was taking a mk5 R32 a few weeks back ;)

^what he said... minus the R32 part... i just light up silly kids in jettas and mustangs ;D
Re: MPG

I have about 600 miles with my Fast.
At the last fill-up, I got 333 miles with 13.2 gallons. That's just a hair over 25 mpg.

This is mixed HW and city driving, with AC on 90% of the time.

Let's see if it gets better as everyone was saying.
Re: MPG

im getting about 21mpg with all suburbish city driving.

Sounds like you punched it every chance you got. It's all good tho'! Thats' what you bought it for.
Re: MPG

The "trip 2" MPG display (which I haven't reset since I bought the car) indicates 25.5 MPG; that's over about 4500 miles.
Re: MPG

not every chance hah. after i got the Neuspeed CAI whenever i am driving and see a nice car next to me i like to press the gas and then let go to make the BOV go off hah. i think thats where all my gas MPG is going hah.
Re: MPG

I did a 1600 mile road trip and the final average, averaging 80 mph freeway with 100 city miles was 29.5. Not bad, though my normal day-to-day gets at best just shy of 20. Yeah, too much 0-35 in 1 sec flat... >:D
Gas mileage discussion

Can I get a consensus of what you guys are getting on fuel? I have around 3000 miles on mine and it says 20.4mpg as my average so far...

Is this around what the normal is because VW posted, i think, 25-city 31-highway. I kinda drive fast and do a lot of short runs around campus, so that's probably it.

PLUS...do you guys think HEAT is good to put in the fuel tank, would it mess with the overall fuel economy? I haven't put any in yet but winter is around the corner.
