I am sorry but i think the Mini belongs in Pink and in a girls parking spot.. The GTI is a mans car. its heavy enough, fast enough, and handles good enough to be a mans car.

Just look at the colors for the GTI

Black Magic, United Gray, Tornado Red, Reflex Silver, and Candy White

You can not compare them to the colors on the Mini...

The GTI is a masculine car but just right for ladies to drive too..

On the contrary, the MINI is both fast and nimble. And being lighter isn't necessarily a bad thing.

And the MINI has a wider variety of colors with names equally as cool like British Racing Green and Electric Blue.

I don't think most folks around here are giving enough credit where it's due. Especially those who haven't driven one.

While I agree that the GTI is a better car, that doesn't make the MINI a piece of crap.

Many moons ago, I said I'd throw in an objective viewpoint on the Mini Cooper-S. First off, there's nothing wrong with the quality of a Mini. Build quality is on par with any Euro car. For anyone that is on here that wants to talk bad on the quality and reliability of Mini, the same can be said for ANY European car. MKIV Golf anyone??? The styling is just a personal preference, and I'm not a huge fan of the Playskool interior. It all feels solid and the flip-switches for the windows and stuff in the center are really cool. Even the pleather type seats are supportive and comfortable. The back seat on a Mini is totally useless. I'd just rip it out and save the car 100lbs. With only two 6 foot + guys in the car, it's just as comfortable as the GTI in terms of leg room. Don't even think about more than that though.
The ride is what everyone else seems to say. Go-cartish... It's etremely nimble and just begs to be thrown into turns hard and fast. I can only imagine what some coilovers and sway bars would do to one of these. The handling is amazing.
Acceleration isn't on par with the GTI and without much torque, the Mini will lose every time. That's not to say it isn't zippy or quick. On a track, because of the handling, the Mini might win out the GTI. The other thing I should mention is how easy it is to make a Mini STUPID fast. Since it's supercharged, an underdrive pulley is really all you need to add about 30+ hp. One bolt on that can completely change the personality of this car. The one I drove had an Alta intake and Alta 17% underdrive pulley. It's pretty damn quick and sounds AWESOME. Superchargers can sound just as mean as a Turbo winding up.
That's my take on the Mini

I do have to say mini's are fun cars, I took a ride with my friend in his mini, he's got it alittle hooked up, not entirely sure what was done. But it accelerated fast and whipped around corners, however he hopped a curb in it and ruined the suspension, he is no longer allowed to drive it.. LOL. I could have bought a mini, I just thought it was a bit to small for me, but its all personal preference. I didnt buy the GTI to be the fastest car for the money, I bought a GTI becuase it has decent speed and handling, but also had a particular styling I enjoyed.

Alright, you are a fool.

I guess the Lotus Elise is the girliest car out there. Crazy colors, weighs less than a ton...

Do you mean his dads mini? why else would he not be allowed to drive his car after jumping a curb?

People, ease up on Dad's ride.

New to this forum - had to comment on that article though.
I just find it hilarious that all the Mini owners think that the GTI is ugly.
Ever been to the circus? Dont they always deliver the clowns in a Mini?

When I had my 2005 GTI I loved it. It drove and handled like the fine German car that it is. Honestly, it did dive a little in turns, but was easily compensated by accelerating through the turn rather than slowing down. This is something I think all GTI drivers love (and do)

I recently traded up to a Fahrenheit edition (986/1200). Not only does it have looks that slay other cars in it's class - when I am pushing this car througha series ot turns at speed, I start giggling and laughing uncontrollably at the way this car handles, accelerates, shifts (DSG=OMFG), sounds (splendid exhaust tuning), looks (lots of twisted necks in Austin, TX right now), I love how the steering wheels feels in my hands.

OK. Maybe I'm a little vdub biased (4th vdub, 2nd GTI) - but these people know how to make a car.

Mini schmini. Perfect for Austin Powers.

When I first looked at the GTI, I looked at the reviews for the car. just to get a good idea about the car and what people thought about it. Unfortunatly I came across this review. I got pissed while I was reading this review. Leave it to some "Mini lovers" to bash another car cause they feel threatened. there scared. They know we can STOMP THERE GUTS OUT on the street. if my old car (scion tC) can beat a mini. I'd love to see what my GTI would do. Thank God i didn't listen to them. when I first stared to read it, I didn't know it was a "mini" forum. but I just scrolled down and BAM!!!! all I saw was haters. But hey, if it helps them sleep better at night, go for it
