so i got my GTi now but got an issue. i swapped plates over from my old car & the plates have rust on them from the bolts on the old car.

anyone know anything good to get the rust off? nice clean lookin car and an ugly ass licence plate dont go good 2gether.

oh yea & what to use to keep the new bolts from doing the same thing.

I'd like to recommend detailing clay for the rust , but I am not 100% sure of the outcome. Go galvanized for the bolts. Good luck

the sell a product called CLR it takes rust off as long as its not to bad

Thought the rust was on your paint! Nevermind the clay idea, go with Strang's advice

I have used to get the rust off lots of stuff. It works great! It's really easy to use too. You can pick it up at pretty much any auto parts store for a couple bucks.

yea i saw that on google. i heard its crazy abrasive though. Was it always easy to use for you/safe? i have vanity plates & i def dont want to fuck them up.

It's not abrasive at all. It has a consistency of jello. I had a set of old chrome wheels that were pitted and rusted really bad. That stuff got them looking right spankin! I just used a latex glove and rubbed it in with my fingers. I'm not sure how it will affect the plastic coating that is on most plates though. You might want to try it on a different plate to make sure it doesn't deteriorate that coating. Maybe you can post before and after pics.
