Hello,

I am new to the forum, but I am not new to the VW community. I currently own and drive a 2015 GTI which now makes my second VW. My first was the 2003 anniversary edition back in my high school days. In August I made the decision to get another GTI, which I love driving btw. I forgot how much fun these cars are to drive and just cruise around. I wasn't sure if I should go brand new or used, or even try for the new Golf R. It was a tough choice. Golf R is really nice looking car with a lot of bells and whistles but I don't know a lot about the Golf R series at this time, maybe next time.

Welp. I guess not new, but returning. (Cant remember my old account info) I used to be on here quite often while I was in college. During that time I drove a 02 reflex silver gti. I had that for a out 4 or 5 years and did a full turbo back exhaust eurocustoms reflash, turbo inlet pipe coilovers, stripped it out, etc. Loved that thing to death and was super fun in the mountains.
I eventually met a friend who had a 95 cabrio that I fell in love with. We ended up pulling my 1.8t from the gti and swapping it into the cabrio.
The cabrio has euro tdi aport cloths, voted wood trim, dimple dash, koni coilovers, full turbo back etc. I actually just had it shipped to me from my home to my current duty station.
While at tech school I bought a 2008 r32 and did air lift v2, unitronic reflash for ecu and dsg, bfi motor mounts, small interior stuff like the urotuning shift knob etc.
Once I arrived in california at my duty station I happened to be searching the classifieds and found an 83 gti. Because I'm a Maryland resident I can register my cars there still and not out here. The guy selling it was having trouble because it has a 16v swap that's not barred and most people here dont want to deal with it. So I ended up getting it for 500 bucks!
Once in my hands I got it back on the road using the cis jetronic, then recently swapped to cbr900rr carbs and got techtonics 254 cams. It's also on coilovers, has front and rear chassis braces and hd motor mounts. I LOVE THIS CAR. It's been a dream car of mine for a long time. Excited to be back on the forum!

Jeepers! hello from Minnesota. I am a 50 year old father of six and have always loved VW's! The bus pictured was my first and I have owned a 2015 Golf a 2018 Jetta and now a 2008 GTI. I have worked on friends VW's and stuff and am really enjoying my GTI (until recently it has had an attitude). I always joke that all VW's have a soul like Herbie- if you don't give them some attention- they act up!

Re: INTRODUCTIONS - Say Howdy Here

Howdy ;D
I'm really old school...and really old. I started racing SCCA in 1966 with a Porsche GT Carerra 4 cam.
Along came a wife and kids and I retired, not voluntarily but. Anyway started racing again in 1987...with SCCA and got very tired of constant wrecks...so I went Vintage. Started with a Formula Vee, just to get feet back under me. Then went to Formula Ford and progressed through a herd of cars...eventually retiring in 1997 while driving a '66 Lotus Elan. So very recently I bought an '86 944 to go NASA Spec Racing...but that didn't work well either so--- I bought a '07 GTI...and I'm going auto crossing in Utah.
If anybody has any tips, I'd really appreciate the help. Anyway, Sunday the 14th is the first one. I'll see how GTI and I do. Maybe I'll tell you about it...depending on finish?

HELP!! I just bought a MK 5 Gti and it’s burning about a quart of oil a day. I’ve replaced the pcv valve hoping that that would maybe fix it but it slowed it down for about a day, and not I’m stuck with one option and that’s to overhaul it. I’m really dreading taking this thing apart and adding to my other massive work pile. If anyone would possibly know what it might be please let me know!!

Hi, Not sure if I'm doing this correctly. New member. Just took delivery on 2020 SE Auto, white. Long time Sports car fan. 63 MGB, TR-4, Bug Eye Sprites, 1985 Lotus Turbo Esprit, 1960 VW. So far, love the GTI. I find the manual a bit overwhelming. This car does so many things it is hard to figure it all out. Will look over the forum for indo on systems and how to best use the car. It says this is a reply. Hope this is the way to make the first post. Terry

Hey everyone!
Just joined and bought my first GTI. I have myself a 2008 white GTI 4d. Only "mod" is a K&N typhoon the dum dum who had before me put on(he was the DIY guy who doesn't know how to DIY but thinks he does). Fixing a few minor issues(n24, wastegate, cam timing sensors) as are pretty common at 103k. Then looking to jump into APR stage I and maybe look into their exhaust system. Cheer to you all!

Hi, Just joined forum. 78 years old, long time sports car fan. Owned 63 MGB, two Bug eye Sprites, TR4. 85 Lotus Turbo Esprit. 97 Honda Prelude and currently own a 97 Mazda Miata "M" Edition. Real fun car. Long time GTI fan. Finally talked my wife into getting one. New wheels. Never liked the effort but manufacturers to make the car wheels look like they are

Its really difficult to know with out doing a few things.
First Id do a compression test
Mk4’s run about 180psi
If that checks out a wet test to determine if the valves are seating.
Pretty sure the only thing left after that would be the turbo.
Best of luck!!
