[GTI*UP]

I've got a 4dr '07 and each door has one small rectangular light with a red plastic lense at the base (inside edge of each door).. Anyways, I figured that these would light up when a door is open but from what I can tell, they don't light at all. I've tried to get these babies to come on with the ignition/lights on and off...no ditty. Anyone?

Could be they're just meant as reflectors for when someone is driving up behind you at night and your car is parked on the side of the road and you swing your door open to get out so that they see you.

I think this is one of the things on list of stuff that was "deleted" from the 07 models, deleted lights and added reflectors. They seemed to have trimmed some costs on the GTI for 07.. I don't recall seeing that savings passed on to me on my sticker

I drove an '07 TDI Jetta as a dealer comp while I was waiting for delivery of my ride & it had the same light/reflectors, only they lit when a door was opened. I'm assuming they also light on the '06 GTI's though no one has yet commented.

They are reflectors on the GTI, lights on the Jetta/Passats. Apparently VW thinks a hugely long door is best with a reflector instead of something someone might actually see.
