Hello everyone,

Is there any simple trick to find out is the 2001-2004 GTI 1.8T 150 HP or 180 HP?

1999-2000 GTI's 1.8T I think all of them are 150 HP?

I'm planning to buy a GTI in europe and want to find one with 180 HP, but have no idea how to find out :D

Thanks in advance :)

correct me if im wrong, but arent the cars essentially the exact same, with the only major difference being that the 00-01 ones come with 5 psi boost from factory and the 02-04 come with 8?

Basically, yes. The AWW motor (one of the 150hp variety) has a lower compression ratio (electronically via the timing) and only pushes 8psi. The AWP has a 9.5:1 compression ratio and pushed 11psi. It doesn't matter which motor you get, since once you tune it, they will be identical.

What you want to look out for, however, is the turbo. You want to make sure you get the K03 Sport (k03s) and not just the K03. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips ;)

Another question is... every GTI 2000 is AWD, some 2001 are AWW and some 2002 are AWP, but this is in USA, I want to buy one from Europe (Made in Germany) and engine codes will be the same for German made cars? so 1999 will be also AWD?

Not true. I think your confusing a GTI with the Golf.
All N. Americian GTI's are made and assembeled in Wolfsburg. Engines are made in Hungery by VW/Audi where they make the TT. Just check the drivers side door sill tag or the vin.
I pulled this from another site.
Just look at the first character in the VIN number.

1 - Country of Origin

1 - USA
2 - Canada
3 - Mexico
4 - USA
9 - Brazil
J - Japan
K - Korea
S - England
W - Germany
Z - Italy

The 11th character - Assembly Plant.

A - Ingolstadt, Germany
B - Brussels, Belgium
C - Taipei, Taiwan
D - Bratislava, Slovakia
E - Emden, Germany
G - Steyr/Graz, Austria
H - Hannover, Germany
J - Jakarta, Indonesia
K - Karmann, Osnabruck Germany
M - Puebla, Mexico
N - Neckarsulm, Germany
P - Mosel, Germany
R - Martorell, Barcelona, Spain
S - Stuttgart, Germany
T - Kvasiny, Czech Republic
U - Uitenhage, South Africa
V - Palmela, Portugal (previously Westmoreland, USA)
W - Wolfsburg, Germany
X - Poznan, Poland
Y - Pamplona, Spain (SEAT)
1 - Gyor, Hungary
2 - Changchun, China
4 - Curitiba, Brazil

You can see yourself...

here are few in USA sold GTI's VIN's:

9BWDE61J624033258
9BWPG61J614066105
9BWDE61J634029583
9BWDE61J234028060

here is the VIN decoder ;)

They are all made in Brazil and even Assembly Plant is in Brazil

I mean that all GTI's which were sold in USA officially, they were made in Brazil, of course you can find Germany made ones, but I think they are brought from europe by companies or individuals... otherwise it doesn't make sense for VW to sell GTI's in USA from europe, while they have factory in Brazil or other parts of N. and S. America :)

and sorry for the noobest question of all time :D This forum (myfastgti.com) is USA based website?

Well mine was manufactured in Germany, just assembled in Brazil.

To answer the question, yes this is a USA based site.
