Ok, you guys. Solve this one!

I was out driving one night and I stopped off somewhere. When I got back into the fast, I switched on the headlights along with the foglights, as I always do. I suddenly noticed that there was an amber light on the gauge cluster that looked like a small light bulb. Then the infomation display flashed a warning....'Front Left Foglight Not Functioning'. I automaticlly thought that it was a burnt out bulb. The next day I set out to replace the bulb. My suspictions were confirmed when the filiment of the bulb was indeed burnt out. So it was replaced. Same type of OEM bulb, (same wattage as well) not an aftermarket. Now here's where the problem is. When I went to turn the foglight back on, the same amber warning light on the dash came on, same error message appeared on the display, and the left bulb does not work. After dissasembly again... the bulb was not bunt out, the harness was not burned, there is good contact between the bulb and harness.

The only explination I have is that when the bulb burned out, it sent a trouble code to the ECM saying that the bulb was burned out. This would mean that I would have to take the car back to the dealership and have them reset the ECM to clear the code! Right?? Take the car back to the dealership for a foglight bulb!!?!?!?!? For a foglight bulb that has already been replaced?!?!? Are you kidding me?!?!? I do not want to sit in the dealership for 3 hours for this!

Tell me there is something easy to fix this problem. PLEASE help me if you can.

Nah...tried it. The famed....

1. insert key
2. press and hold trip reset
3. turn key
4. press 'm'

No such luck with that one! It's like the harness doesn't even have power. Quite possibly there is more to this than just a burnt out foglight bulb. I think I am just going to break down and get a Vag-Com so I don't have to deal with this stupid annoying crap. I am not all about being without a car for a couple of days for stuff that takes minutes to fix. My dealership service department...well, in short, just plain sucks. 2 and a half hours for an oil change, and that was with an apointment!! Not to mention it would be kinda nice to be able to do the disable DRL's and do the window/fob thing.

A month and a half ago I convinced by buddy to trade in his 01 Xterra for a 07 Black Magic package one. Same as mine, except he somehow swindled a set of those 18" package 2 wheels. I think were going to go halves on in it so then the cost isn't as devistating. Between the two of us there is four Dubs in the family. (His and mine GTI, my old ladys 07 Passat, and her mothers 06 New Bettle.) Sounds like a good investment to me. Bcruzin...have you heard of any particular Vag-Com setups that are better than others?
