In my last GTI, i changed the stereo, and when i got it smogged, the guy gave me crap for having a head unit in it, saying that it messes up the smog or something.

Now in my 337, the CD and Casette player went out, so i really want to change th head unit... have you guys ever herd of such a thing that the head unit messes with smog???

btw, im in california =/

It's actually true. It messes up the Ecu in earlier mk4

IIRC

you only have problems if you cut the radio harness

but if you use an adapter harness

you should be fine

i actually work at a smog shop im out in california.

the stock headunit is the CAN OBD II gateway

if you change the head unit it changes the output voltage on one of the pins going to a module and causes you to fail smog.

the guy cant change anything or do anything diff. the only way around it that i know of is to keep ur stock one and everytime smog time comes switch them out about 100 miles before you take it to smog.
