I hate to say it Freddie, but perhaps there should be a section dedicated to TSB's (Technical Service Bulletins), recalls, etc... We all want to think they aren't needed, but a good one to move there would be the stereo problem as reported by zulu in this thread:

At any rate, I've had a problem with my GTI that it sometimes will not start on the first attempt. I'll get into it cold and turn the key only to have it turn over and over and not start. It always starts on the second try. I took it into the dealer, and they applied a software update to address a known issue of it not turning over at all (one ignition issue might address another one?). But, it still happens about once a week. I turn the key and it just cranks and cranks and won't start up. Next try it kicks right in. Has anyone else had the same problem?

There's some info on thise over at the vwvortex forums and I've tracked some stuff on a few British boards.

As far as I know there's not tech TSB on it yet, but the problem is pretty widespread, so I'd expect one in the near future. Mine does the same thing occasionally. It's really hit or miss, though.

Same for me there are times when it just wants to crank and crank and then other times it goes on the first crank
knowing my dealer if I took it to them they wouldnt know where the computer is to update it..

i had never had this probel with this car. maybe you should try to check the wiring to the battery to make sure its fully connected. maybe the wires are not getting a full charger occaionally causing the car not to fire up...? just a suggestion.

My insurance company thought it was a TDI at first too when I explained it to them over the phone. They didn't know what a GTI is.

Yeah. I have that problem if i start my car shortly after turning it off though. Is it that much of a nuisance to you. Cuz it doesnt really bother me that much
