Why even compare it to a Honda? Where's the GTI vs. Mercedes C or BMW 3 board?
Gotta remember though, you have to consider the division the car falls into. Road and Track (I think) of March did an article comparing the Cooper S, Si, and the GTI. All fit within a 20,000~27,000 range, where the Benz-C and BMW-3 start around 30,000.

Not to say the GTI can't compete with the latter though ;D. The GTI scored 1st place out of those afore-mentioned three in R&T. Might not be too long before we see BMW and Benz scrambling to pull their tails out of the dangerous waters of the affordable beasts, where our shark of the GTI lurks (hey wait... a bunny-shark??)!

Yep, thats the one. It's an interesting read. I honestly considered the Si a few months back... but the GTI wasn't out yet ;D. Good thing I waited lol.

Now, if you want to get back to talking about the GTI vs Si, simple: Torque, head space, the DSG, and DAILY DRIVABILITY(!!!!!!). After all. We all know we want to be comfortable in our precious GTIs on that drive to work ;D.

I agree, I rode as a passenger also in an Si a few days ago, we only went about 15 miles but I could hear tons of road noise, queaks and rattles. The car only had 3700 miles on it. The civic took a dive in quality in 2001 in my opinion and has never recovered.

It's not that I think that the Honda is a "bad" car, It's a great car for commuting, after all, I worked for Honda for years. And I still even own a Honda Odyssey. But, god it's boring.

IMO, the Honda car is just that. . . A car.

A Volkswagen, is an Automobile.

Yes, There is a difference, a BIG difference.

Old hatchbacks as in the EF series? Or mid to late 90s like the EG/EK? I personally dig the EK the most. IMO, it was the zenith of designs before they dropped to hell with those damn ugly EP3's. I don't know how you feel about it, but I think the new Si outdoes the EP3. I just don't know how the next CTR is gonna be though... mixed feelings about it.

Now the GTI. I think the MkV did a good job of keeping the tradition up. In fact, the "lipstick and mascara" (-That dude from Top Gear) is something I didn't notice until, well, Top Gear pointed it out, and I think it's a great tribute to the original Hot Hatch.

For sticking to their roots, GTI:1, Honda:0. ;D

I test drove both of these yesterday--I liked the outside look of the SI and it had the performance exhaust that made it sound really good.

However the main differences I noticed was that the GTI had a ton more torque from the get-go, and while driving the GTI I felt more 'one with the car'. While in the SI, I was driving a car--in the GTI, I felt like part of it.

All in all my decision went for the GTI, even though it's more expensive. The interior of the GTI was so much nicer as well--although I really liked the look of the SI seats, the GTI ones fit me more naturally (165lb 22year old).

So now I need to find the best deal on a GTI to buy.

Yeah as a honda head and a vw tech, i've gotta show some love for the si.

Its a good car period. Good price, good power, good handling.

Its quick, looks good in and out.

I raced one the other day, even though I was slightly faster he did hang (granted he did have a CAI) but I'd attribute alot to driver ability.

I loved the old Civic hatchbacks. I hate all the new Honda re-designs, especially the Accord.
Ahhhh, yes. Reminds me of borrowing my roommate's '79 CVCC in college and doing 80 on the freeway in California's burning summer. We had to keep the heater on full blast (geez, that was terrible :) ) to keep from melting down in top gear... 4th.

so today i raced the newer Civic Hatchback Si (not the newest Si but still new). lemme tell ya... his huge exhaust and loud roaring muffler just made me wanna take him on. So... he sees me behind him, there are 2 cars in front of us on each side, the second he gets a chance he cuts infront of one of the cars and speeds off. after about 3 seconds i get my chance to go infront of the 2 cars also (he must be going 60 atleast already while i am going 40) so both of us at full throttle are flying down the road and then he realizes he cant get away from me >:D. his Si had NO chance what so ever of beating me. i passed him multiple times but had to stop due to traffic and then have him fly by and then i would just catch up again and fly past him... so after this happened about 2 times he waves his hands at me to stop hahahahaha. after that he has the nerve to pull up to a redlight and stay about 3 car lenghts back (we are both about 2 cars back from the light and he is in the other lane as me) and when the light turns green he floors it just to spin his tires.... now lets think here... he had no chance and waved me off from embarassing him anymore and yet he burns his tires next to me... stupid ricers.
so conclusion... 1 civic Si get ANNIHILATED by GTfly >:D
...if yer still reading this sorry for wasting yer time haha... i just have to get this out of my system i have been smiling all day at the sight of him waving at me to stop hahaha
