Are you guys gear-heads and car enthusiasts who HAPPEN to drive GTIs, or just a bunch of fan-boys???? Stock vs Stock a NEW Si will out-handle the GTI. In EVERY h2h test online and in the mags, the Si posts better skid-pad and track times. It has an actual LSD, not a computer program like the GTI that kills the injection if you start to lose control. The electronic diff on the GTI blows when it comes to pushing the car. It's not an advantage to go faster, it's a safety feature. In Edmunds h2h, the Si smoked the GTi is the slalom by 2 mph. Tires are a factor, but the Si pulls better lateral g's as well. We can all make fun of the fart can muffler, primer gray 91 CRX out there, but the new Si is the GTIs equal and most comparable alternative. It's utter nonsense to say otherwise.

The GTI vs Si in performance are quite close and imo tires decide the winner... I'd really like to see the h2h tests done with an ECU modded GTI... the GTI would win the slalom and with my 18's from the factory with perf rubber on my GTI, i bet it would win lateral G as well.

The technology in the Si is typical Honda = awesome

However, the platform the GTI runs with already being turbo'd gives tons of room for improvement where the Si needs thousands of dollars to add any decent gains.

Imo, the selling point of the GTI vs Si is the refinement... it's head and shoulders above the Si imo.

Who's the best?
we all know the gti is superior
I don't know if you're being sarcastic from the other pointless posts you've put... but the Si... although not as much torque and on drag would lose stock for stock... in handling it has what the GTI lacks: an LSD.

I hate to admit this, cause I like my GTI so much and am not the biggest fan of Honda's, but while the GTI will begin to catch up on the straighter parts of the track, it won't be enough.

Its true, the handling on the SI is so sweet. It handles corners very nicely, and as much as I hate to say it, the Si tops the GTI in handling. BUT handling isn't the only thing you look at when your comparing GTI...

Oh you gotta be sh*tting me! ? The SI in no way handles or brakes better than the MKVI... we have a 2008 Black Si Sedan here and it's ok, cheap feeling, 0 - 60 in about 6.7s when you can launch without spinning the hell out of it... but the GTi owns it. Heck, I like the WRX better than the Si, and the GTi better than the WRX... get the launch right on the MKVI, you can dip into the 5's 0 - 60... so it'll take the Si on the 1/4 also, or it should if the driver isn't a dolt :)

The one thing the Si does well, is handle. The GTI felt a little more top heavy to me, with a bit more push and roll. The Si handles incredibly well through the corners. Unfortunately, it has zero power out of the corner to continue that fun.
Holy thread revive!

So... which would complete corner quicker? To me that's the true test, just because it rolls a little more, doesn't make it worse.

Thats up to the driver if the :
Guy in the Dub can keep it in torque and hug tight enough to where he can accelerate the apex and get straightened out quicker to use the rest of the power band he has a good shot
Guy in the Honda can keep it up in the rpm band and slang the f*ckin car like a matchbox hug the turn and coming screaming out of the corner and upshift as it straightens out he has a good shot

Yeah sorry about that! I am starting to think there isn't a whole lot of forum activity here, because I posted a newb thread and no one responded. So I searched "NewPosts" and found this, and posted on it, not paying attention to the date.

My bad!
