fastest i have seen myself on the speedo is 130 before i had to use the brakes. i know it wasnt a true 130 though. it was closer to 120 then 130. if you have the climate control AC you can make it so the passanger side temp reads as a speedo but it cuts off after 110 :-\

i have another god damn bent rim!. i live in a construction area and the road is not too smooth so i believe i hit a bump a tad too hard. but god damn... now the car shakes 70+ or under hard acceleration... the car still goes straight but the steering wheel vibrates pretty hard :-\.
i have the warranty for rims and tires and i think it will cover this... anyone know if it does for sure?? i called VW and the guy wasnt too sure himself (how great it is to call VW with a question and have them as puzzled as you)

I know the answer, but you're not gonna like it.
Unless you can show that the bending was because of a defect, the warranty will not cover it. This is considered the same as a collision, so your normal auto insurance should cover it. Deciding if paying the deductable and the possibility of increase in insurance cost is worth claiming it is up to you.
Note: I've never seen any automotive franchise warranty this, and I've seen this issue arise at least 50 times in the last 5 years alone.

I bent two rims on my old Jetta due to a road hazard and neither warranty nor insurance would cover it. Ended up costing about $1000 for two 15" alloys and 2 cheap tires and labor.

GTFLy, please tell me that this is what was causing the grinding noise and that this isn't a whole separate problem you're having.

I learned recently that in Seattle, if you "break" your tire on a road hazzard and bug the city, they will cover it. It's something worth noting for everyone in their various municipalities.

I think every municipality should cover it, if you bug them enough. I mean it's their responsibility to ensure the roads are at least in reasonable shape. In my case I was on a highway, just in the process of lane changing, so I didn't see a football sized piece of cement that broke off the median lying in the middle of the road. Hit it with both left wheels doing about 80 mph.

i only heard the grinding noise once and it was not coming from the wheel. it was very odd considering i was only going 25 when it happened. (drove the car soft for about 10 minutes to let it settle down then while entering my neighbor hood on a right hand turn i heard the sound). my car was involved in an accident if you all remember awhile back (someone smashed me at school) but everything is now fixed supposivly... if anything goes wrong within the next few days they should cover it (hopefully). no more 120mph runs though for awhile too scary with the possibility of something falling off the car :(
