Had a bunch of fun this past Sunday w/ my new GTI in a sanctioned autocross. I came in 2nd place ;D in the Novice Class (out of 6) and thoroughly trounced a '95 Corvette, several new RX-8's, Miata's, BMW 325, Integra and the like..... what a great and fun handling car at the limit and on a track!! I highly recommend everyone try to find your local Auto-x club and give it a spin. Although now I can't stop thinking about ways to tweak this and that for an extra tenth here and there..... lil' GTI.... wa wa wa wawaaaaaaa.........

I drove mine to an SCCA event here in my town. I just wanted to spectate since my car wasn't broken in yet, but I did park next to a brand new civic si and talked to the guy for a spell. I can't wait to take it out and show him up. Next weekend our local drag strip is having an import night. My friends are begging me to enter. Peer pressure, it's a beautiful thing.

Slow in, and fast out... Make sure the car is pointed before you really get on it.

I just did autocross a couple weeks ago in the SCCA novice school. It was fan-tas-tic. We got to do 10 runs throughout the day. After my first 2, I let an instructor drive it once. That's when my fast grin kicked in. Car's a little heavy, but once you know what it can do, it is just a complete blast. Going back out tomorrow. Best advice I got - the car is made for it. Push the gas to the floor (when you've got room), and brake 'til you feel the ABS. Coming from the street, at first I was pussyfooting it because you can't unleash the power in the city streets of Seattle.

Drive it like you stole it... >:D

When you REALLY want instruction on how to drive a car, search out a racing school.

Do you know of a good racing school anywhere near Seattle? I would love to get some more time where I can really play with the car and get some feedback without taking out a whole bunch of cones... :)

P.S. I only got 4th today racing in novice. Then I let my friend drive my car a lap and he beat my best time by over 2 seconds (on a 45 second track). Grrr... See first paragraph.

I might be fairly lucky with the pool of miata crazed former race drivers that are MAC insructors, but typicaly these guys are awesome about giving advice. I have sniped some much instruction and advice from some seriously fast drivers. I can tell you it helps, I beat cars that i really shouldnt be beating. My advice is soak it up, and if they let you have the guys ride along as much as possible. The amount of tourqe the GTI has, you arent gonna loose much with a passenger, and you will get more out of it.

I would die to attend racing school, but since open track isnt really in the budget this year, i am more then content bugging the instructors, and the 2 ex F1 drivers untill they want to beat me.

AHAHAHAHAHahahhaahaaa!

I would kill for Dave Grohl to teach me how to race, but I don't think that's gonna happen anytime soon.
