alright, CarMax is selling a 2006 Tornado Red GTi for $20,599. It has 8k miles, sunroof, and it's a manual trans. KBB's trade-in value is $17,075 and suggested retail is $21,850. Do you think I'd be able to talk them down to about $18,000-$19,000?

Also, should I be buying it with 8k miles on it? I wanted to buy a brand new one because I wanted to be the one to break in the car because the vast majority of people do not know how to properly break in cars...what do you guys think??

Whatever you do, if you buy the car and within the month or three months or whatever Carmax does for no questions return policy you have the slightest problem with the car, return it.

Buddy of mine bought a used Jetta from Carmax and had an absolutely horrific experience with them. He did have some problems with the car when he first bought it and brought it back to them and they fixed it. During that time he should have just asked for his money back but instead he thought it would be fixed and everything would be fine. Couple months later one thing after another broke on that car: everything from the door lock actuators to the breaks (almost died in the car). Tried to return it to Carmax on the basis that they sold him a lemon but it was well past the returnability date and all they offered was to buy it back at market value.

You should try bartering them down to below $20K too. Isn't that one of the things they pride themselves on, selling cars below market value?

I'm still contemplating on whether or not I even want to buy from Carmax...they insulted me saying they would give me $6000 for my Jetta that is worth $10,000! I think if anything they are a rip off and maybe I'll just wait and buy a GTi new and not semi-used. The thing with the Jetta I have to agree with, there's been a good deal of things going wrong with my car, hence the reason for selling it. I don't know whether to blame VW for that, or the previous owner??
