Vegas Fahrenheit and i drove out to Lake Mead today and got some images of our Fahrenheits, check em out and let us know what ya think? enjoy the 23 images. I shot these with a D2X and 70-200mm lens, the last image was shot with a 400mm 2.8 If we had my durango, i could have brought strobe lights and shot these at dusk with much more dramatic lighting, these were taken between 10am and noon... some of the worst light of the day.

TOE, those pictures are amazing.

What benefits did you get from using those lenses?

I have two lenses for my camera: a 18-55mm lens (came with the camera) and a 75-300mm zoom lens.

What lens should i use to get a better picture. I've noticed when using my zoom lens I get a better depth of field. although I have to stand a ways off.

You can PM me if you don't want to respond here, or since this is your thread about pictures I guess it wouldn't be considered thread jacking.

Thanks guys for the compliments ... its easy to take good photos when you have a subject matter like the GTI and Lake Mead scenery. To answer your question...its not just one thing that allows you to take a great photo, more than anything a proper understanding of exposure and creative compositional skills will be enough, but good equipment definitely helps.

Narrow depth of field like in the last image coming straight at me is most beneficial if you are looking for high compression in an image, i use it to isolate an image from the foreground AND background... it gives a pleasing illusion that you dont see with the human eye ( what causes it is bokeh* ) i used a 400mm 2.8 nikon lens ( $8,000 lens ) you can get similar results with a cheaper lens but where other lenses fall short is optic quality...you can get vignetting and C.A ( Chromatic Aberation ) and lossy corners where the image quality falls apart, but you will still achieve the narrow depth of field and isolation with your 300mm ( just not quite as much ) use an aperture in the range of F2.8 to F5 and it will make it more narrow and compressed looking.

a 17-55 isnt a lens to use to achieve a narrow dof look, unless you are doing macro photography on closeup subjects, then you can achieve that look as well. but for cars a 17-55 is going to give you wide shots with the background only slightly out of focus.

Glad you guys like the images .. Im sure ill do more in the future :)

Sounds like a plan :)

Vegas is actually pretty great, locals dont go down to the strip very much at all, if its the strip that you are talking about i know what ya mean...its fast paced and all that but can be too much real quick, but because of the casinos this city has amenities up the wazoo, tons of skateparks and sports complexes for families, Lake Mead, Mt Charleston, Red Rock, Valley of Fire...the grand Canyon west rim only 2 hours away, then places like yosemite, arches, zion, antelope canyon, bryce are all within a days drive.

Not to mention all the roads around here are immaculate ( except for occasional rocks from ongoing casino contruction and the trucks that spew em onto the highways ) most of the city is new, the growth spurt in the last 7 years has been unreal, it has bad parts too but once you get away from the strip, you realize this is a diverse community full of some really good people.

If we can organize a fahrenheit get together, that will be great...or even a MFG mini convention for us members :)

Alright all I can say is, get ready to add another FH to your expedition lineup there cause when I move to Reno IN TWO MONTHS (so freaking excited) I am totally joining you guys. Funny you should say that about your Cybershot camera Vegas, I have one too but it's 10.1 megapixels. Think that's enough? Probably still wouldn't compare to Toe's camera. Looks like he has a DSLR or something. Anyways, I know I'll need something to do when I get down there so I hope you have room for a third. Later lol. Toe, I keep noticing Bex is near all of you. Black goes with orange (obviously) lol.
