Does anyone out there know if you can disable these things? I asked the dealer about it and they were clueless. I read a posting on VW Vortex but it sounds like I need the dealer computer to change the coding. I know on BMW cars you can just go in to the computer with a click of the mouse and disable the lights.

Would the Euro light switch solve this problem? Or does that just give me the option to utilize the rear fog lights? What is the coming home and leaving home lights they refer to in this link----> http://www.tmtuning.com/HOME/catalog/product_detail.php?default_product=1187

I like to have control of when my lights are on and this is my only grievance with the GTI thus far.

coming home keeps your lights on longer so you can get into the house before they go off. I don't know of any way to disable the DLRs, without having a VW tech do it.

The DRLs can be turned off. VWoA will not allow it (one person told me it was against the law). Find someone in your area that has Vagcom. It is software that allows you to change settings in your VW's computers. Once the DRLs are disabled, a euro swith will allow you to run the fogs without the headlights, just the parking lights, or a rear fog if your vehicle is equipped. I'm fairly certain that you need different taillights to get the rear fog light though. I intend to get a Vagcom soon. Check it out HERE

I have been reading into the VAG-COM. Any idea where the hook up is on the GTI and what cable to order VAG-COM with?

I'll have to check out the e-brake thing...didn't think of that one. If that is the case I bet there is a switch in there that can be modified with duck tape to disable the DRLs.

I don't care that they're on all the time. What bugs me is the stupid "DRL" light on the dash that 's on all the time. Wish there was a way to shut that thing off. That and the light saying that the passenger airbag is off.
Usually, under normal operating conditions there should be no warning lights on anywhere. It's distracting.

I haven't noticed the "passenger airbag off" light since when I bought the car. It's never on, so I assume the airbag always is.
That's odd. Unless you have somebody in the passenger seat the airbag should be off and the light should be on to indicate that it is off.

I find the light annoying but eventually that bulb will burn out right??? 8)

The passenger seat has a sensor that detects anyone over 75 lbs and will engage the airbag. This keep the bag off while you have a kiddie seat in there and small children that aren't meant for the airbag.

Maybe that sensor isn't working right for you Thalo.

PS I scored some serious points with my girlfriend by telling her that I was surprised that the light went off for her when she got in.

i think the drl light is distracting too, i just turn the headlights on.

in my rx8, when you would turn the headlights on, a light would indicate the lights were on....i thought it was a problem at first, but i found out that it was designed for that...how distracting that was...at least in the daytime, the light will blend with the sun light, but at night this bright yellow light shining in your face was pretty annoying
